Transcendent is an American reality television series that premiered on September 30, 2015 on Fuse. [1] It focuses on the personal and professional relationships of a group of transgender women who perform at AsiaSF, a San Francisco nightclub.

Broadcast

In 2015, Fuse announced a plan to expand from their core music programming. [2] Transcendent was first announced as one of several new fall 2015 shows. [3] [4] The show is produced by World of Wonder, which produces a series about Big Freedia for Fuse. [5] [6] They gave a sneak peek at the Television Critics Association. [7]

Reception

The series originally aired on September 30, 2015. [8] [9] "Fuse, which targets Millennials ages 18-34 and recently re-launched, had the top original series premieres in its history for that group with Transcendent." [10]

When the trailer came out, one reviewer said "It looks to be equal parts I Am Cait-style heartwarming drama about the lives and struggles of trans women, and trashy ensemble reality show in the style of the Real Housewives." [11] Another said "The show is funny, personal and highlights the joys and struggles of being transgender." [12]

  1. The girls are introduced. L.A. decides to take hormones, and Nya takes her to the doctor for a prescription. They rehearse for the show, and Xristina is late. We meet the guy Nya is dating, but they break up later. [19]
  2. Bionka and Xristina go to get hair removal. L.A. decides to audition to perform at the club. Nya gets promoted to manager of the other girls. Bambiana gets stood up on a date, so she invites her friends to join her. [20]
  3. They hold additions for male dancers, but Nya gets mad because Bioka says some inappropriate things. Bambiana decides to have surgery. Bionka has a huge birthday party. Later, Bionka and Bambiana meet in the park to fix their argument at the club. [21]
  4. Nya has a date. Xristina and her friend Rico are more than friends, and they seem to be romantically involved. Xristina wants to be a police office and talk to a police officer named Brody who is a transgender man. [22] Nya tells L.A.her audition did not go well. Bambiana gets lip injections, and we meet her mother. [23]
  5. Bambiana also works at a salon, and she talks about her medical expenses. Her mother also has medical expenses, and Bambiana does not have enough money for everything. Nya has another date with her new boyfriend and they all meet at an art gallery. Bambiana gets fat freezing. Xristina is late again, and after Bionka calls her out, they meet at Xristina's apartment. Rico comes out in a towel, which surprises Bionka. Xristina says they are not dating. Bambiana goes to a therapist to talk about surgery. [24]

RuPaul's Drag Race is an American reality competition television series, the first in the Drag Race franchise, produced by World of Wonder for Logo TV, WOW Presents Plus, VH1 and, beginning with the fifteenth season, MTV. The show documents RuPaul in the search for "America's next drag superstar". RuPaul plays the role of host, mentor, and head judge for this series, as contestants are given different challenges each week. Contestants are judged by a panel that includes RuPaul, Michelle Visage, one of three rotating judges, as well as one or more guest judges, who critique their progress throughout the competition. The title of the show is a play on drag queen and drag racing, and the title sequence and song "Drag Race" both have a drag-racing theme.

Monica Dejesus-Anaya, known by the stage persona Monica Beverly Hillz, is an American drag queen, reality television personality and transgender activist best known for appearing on the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2013, as well as for returning in 2023 on the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars. She was the second contestant in the show's history to come out as a transgender woman, on the show, after Sonique Kylie Love of season 2. Hillz came-out during the judges' critiques for that episode's main challenge; her coming-out was especially historic, as it was a first for network television or a reality competition show.

Zackary Drucker is an American multimedia artist, cultural producer, LGBT activist, actress, and television producer. Drucker has stated that she considers discovering, telling, and preserving trans history to be not only an artistic opportunity but a political responsibility. The TransLatina Coalition, stylized as the TransLatin@ Coalition, is a national, Los Angeles–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity advocacy group that works on behalf of transgender Latina women who are immigrants to the United States. It established and runs the Center for Violence Prevention and Transgender Wellness and works with policymakers and organizations to advance advocacy and resource support for transgender Latinas. Its staff consists of leaders from across the United States who have specific experience in meeting the needs of transgender Latinas intersecting with public health, education, and social justice, with representation in over 11 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and Mexico City, with over seven organized chapters.
