Trent Solsma (born 1990s) is a former college football quarterback who played for the Morningside Mustangs.

Early life and college career

Trent Solsma was born in the 1990s in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. He went to high school at Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, [1] leading them to the state championship in 2013. He set records for: passing yards (453), touchdown passes (6), total touchdowns (7, as Solsma also had a rushing score), and pass completions (23) during the championship game. [2] He was then named to the 2013 All-Metro class. [3]

Solsma played college football at Morningside College. [4] [5] In his senior year, he was named the NAIA Player of the Year after throwing for 5,097 yards and 68 touchdowns, with only 6 interceptions. [6] He also was named First-Team All-American. [7] [8] [9] In his final college football game, the NAIA National Championship, he went 19 for 36 passing, with 292 yards and four touchdowns. [10] With under 1:30 left in the game, he threw a 16-yard pass to Connor Niles to win the championship against Benedictine. [10] [11] He had also thrown a game-winning pass to Niles in the previous game. [12] The Trent Solsma-Connor Niles duo was considered to be one of the most productive duos in NAIA football history. He threw for 13,739 yards and 169 touchdowns in his career. [6] He is the NAIA's all-time leader in passing touchdowns. [6]

After his college career he became a coach at Cinco Ranch High School.

The 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference football season is made up of 10 United States college athletic programs that compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2012 college football season. Morningside College of Iowa completed the regular season undefeated to win the conference championship and advance to the 2012 NAIA Football National Championship. Northwestern came in second in conference play and also qualified for the championship tournament, but lost in the first round to the Marian Knights by a score of 42–32.

In their sixth season under head coach Ted Karras Jr., the Knights compiled a 12–1 record and won the NAIA national championship, defeating Morningside, 30–27, in overtime in the NAIA National Championship Game.

The 1973 Abilene Christian Wildcats football team was an American football team that represented Abilene Christian College (ACC) during the 1973 NAIA Division I football season. In their sixth season under head coach Wally Bullington, and their first season as a member of the Lone Star Conference (LSC), the Wildcats compiled an 11–1 record, won the LSC championship, and outscored all opponents by a total of 466 to 206. They advanced to the NAIA playoff, defeating Langston (34–6) in the semifinals and Elon (42–14) in the Champion Bowl to win the 1973 NAIA Division I football national championship.
