Tribal Students' Union (in Bengali Upajati Chhatra Union) is an organization affiliated to Students' Federation of India in Tripura. The Tribal Students' Union (TSU) is the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Tripura. [1] [2]

Introduction

Tribal Students' Union stands for the establishment of a progressive, democratic and egalitarian education system which will ensure social justice and intellectual self reliance.It strives to achieve this by uniting the entire Tribal student community towards the cause of a universal and free public education system ensuring education for all.Hence it raises the sogan, 'Independence, Democracy, Socialism'.

Since its formation in 1978, TSU has consistently undertook burning issues that are of vital concern to the student community and has been at the forefront of the struggle ,shoulder to shoulder with the progressive sections fighting for creation of an egalitarian society.

TSU has a separate central committee. The supreme body of TSU is the Central Conference.

History

The organization was formed in 19th-20th august at Khowai by Tribal Youth Federation. TSU works in close coordination with Tribal Youth Federation and is often considered as the Student wing of TYF. The student leaders originally intended to lead discussions on issues including radical education reform, employment, safeguarding, and the expansion of democratic rights.

Khowai is a town located in the Indian state of Tripura and a recent nagar panchayat forming into a Khowai Municipal Council in newly formed Khowai district. The city lies on the banks of Khowai river and hence from the river the city gets its name. It was originally settled upon by Upendranath Roy.Located near the Bangladeshi border, Khowai has boundaries with Bangladesh on its entire southern part.

Tribal Youth Federation organization

Tribal Youth Federation is an organization affiliated to Democratic Youth Federation of India in Tripura. TYF organizes youth from the tribal populations of the state. TYF has a separate central committee and publishes Bini Kharad. The supreme body of TYF is the Central Conference.

The Students’ Federation of India and Tribal Students’ Union now leads the student unions council of 22 degree colleges across the state and there were total 790 seats in these colleges. [3] The Students Federation of India (SFI) and Tribal Student Union (TSU) together secured 751 seats out of the total 778 seats. [4]
