Trieste Contemporanea

Trieste Contemporanea is a cultural centre based in Trieste (Italy). Founded as a committee in 1995, it carries out a prevalent research activity into the field of Central Eastern European contemporary visual arts. The Centre dedicates to the artistic and curatorial practices of this European area exhibitions, events, conferences and workshops, editorial productions, international special projects and some recurring initiatives including the CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators (since 2003, a co-production with the Central European Initiative), the Trieste Contemporanea International Design Competition (founded in 1995 by Gillo Dorfles), the Young European Artist Trieste Contemporanea Award (since 1999, for artists under 30, active in the fields of theatre, visual arts and information technology).

The Trieste Contemporanea library (specialized in European art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and dedicated to Franco Jesurun) is part of the Italian National Library Service. [1] The centre has recently been recognised by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage  (MiBACT) as a luogo del contemporaneo (Italian contemporary art venue). [2]

Tristano Alberti was an Italian sculptor. Inspired by Auguste René Rodin, after attending ornate sculptors class at the Alessandro Volta technical institute in Trieste, he choose the same craftsman-like approach in Early Modern Sculpture: Rodin, Degas, Matisse, Brancusi, Picasso, Gonzalez and later, in late 1940s and early 1950s, developed a fully personal style in figuratively representing human and animal-themed chalks and bronzes, possessing a unique ability to model passion, rage and strong emotions. He is known for his sacred art and monuments, and such sculptures as San Sebastiano, Cat, Nazario Sauro and San Giusto. The latter being yearly and awarded as a copy and special prize to prominent people in Trieste.

Kristaps Gulbis is a Latvian sculptor and artist known for numerous contemporary art projects in more than 25 countries. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art in Hokaido, Japan, and at metropolitan sites in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Riga, Moscow and other European cities, as well as in New York, Seoul, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The visual art projects curated, directed and managed by Gulbis have been set in England, Hungary, Germany, Latvia, Estonia and elsewhere in Europe.
