The Tradition is an event on the PGA Tour Champions. First staged 34 years ago in 1989, the PGA Tour recognizes the event as one of the five senior major golf championships. Thomas Daniel Weiskopf was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. His most successful decade was the 1970s. He won 16 PGA Tour titles between 1968 and 1982, including the 1973 Open Championship. He was the runner-up at the The Masters four times. After winding down his career playing golf, Weiskopf became a noted golf course architect. He was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2023 and will be inducted in 2024.
The Arizona Open Championship is the annual open state championship of golf in Arizona. The competition is 54-holes of stroke play, with the winner being the player with the lowest total number of strokes. Following 36-holes of play the field is cut to the top 50 players and ties for the final round. In the event of a tie following 54-holes, a hole-by-hole, sudden death playoff will determine the winner. The Championship is administered by the Southwest PGA. NorthRiver Yacht Club is a private golf club in Tuscaloosa, Alabama which officially opened in 1978. The 2007 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was a golf tournament that was played from February 21–25, 2007 over the South Course at The Gallery Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona. It was the ninth WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the first of three World Golf Championships events held in 2007. It was the first time the championship was played at The Gallery, having previously been hosted by the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts- Scottsdale formerly Scottsdale Culinary Institute (SCI) was a career-focused school in Arizona specializing in culinary and hospitality education. Elizabeth Sherman Leite started Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 1986. The college is owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The institute was located in a former country club on a golf course and lakefront overlooking Camelback Mountain. It closed in 2017.

The 1989 Open Championship was a men's major golf championship and the 118th Open Championship, held from 20–23 July at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland. Mark Calcavecchia won his only major championship in a playoff over Greg Norman and Wayne Grady. It was the first playoff at the Open in fourteen years and the first use off the four-hole aggregate playoff, adopted in 1985. The playoff was formerly 18 holes the following day. Calcavecchia was the first American champion at The Open in six years. Norman shot a course record 64 (−8) in the final round to get into the playoff.
