Troy D. Paino (born December 28,1962) is an American lawyer and academic administrator serving as the president at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). [1] Prior to coming to UMW,Paino served for six years as president of Truman State University in Kirksville,Missouri. Previously,he was Truman State's provost and vice president for academic affairs,and he also served as dean of Winona State University's College of Liberal Arts. [2]
Paino earned his bachelor's degree in history and philosophy from Evangel University in Springfield,Missouri,his Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law,and his master's and doctorate in American studies from Michigan State University. His 1997 Ph.D. thesis was "The end of nostalgia:a cultural history of Indiana high school basketball during the Progressive Era." [3]
Prior to his work in academia,Paino worked for three years in private legal practice. He has served on the history faculties of Winona State University,Truman State University and the University of Mary Washington. His book,The Social History of the United States:1960s,was published in 2008. [4]
Paino served as President of Truman State University from May 2010 to June 2016. While at Truman,he created several humorous videos that gained national attention from forums like Good Morning America , Right This Minute ,and The Huffington Post. [5]

The election took place during World War II,which ended the following year. Incumbent Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated Republican Thomas E. The University of Mary Washington (UMW) is a public liberal arts university in Fredericksburg,Virginia. Founded in 1908 as the Fredericksburg Teachers College,the institution was named Mary Washington College in 1938 after Mary Ball Washington,mother of the first president of the United States,George Washington. Harry Junior "The Horse" Gallatin was an American professional basketball player and coach. Gallatin played nine seasons for the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1948 to 1957,as well as one season with the Detroit Pistons in the 1957–58 season. Gallatin led the NBA in rebounding and was named to the All-NBA First Team in 1954. The following year,he was named to the All-NBA Second Team. Vincent Peter Mroz was a United States Secret Service agent and a United States Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II. In 1948,he was assigned to the presidential protection detail during the Harry S. Truman administration. In November 1950,Mroz shot one of two Puerto Rican nationalists who intended to assassinate President Truman. The man was later tried and imprisoned. The event was described as "the biggest gunfight in Secret Service history." The other nationalist was killed by White House Police Officer Leslie Coffelt.

Choosing Truman:The Democratic Convention of 1944 is a 1994 book by historian Robert Hugh Ferrell about the political convention in Chicago which nominated Franklin D. Roosevelt for his fourth election to the U.S. presidency,but jettisoned Vice President Henry A. Wallace in favor of Missouri Sen. Harry S. Truman. The choice was particularly significant because Roosevelt would die in office the following year,making Truman the 33rd president.
