Troy Ready (born May 15, 1980) is a former American soccer player who played as a midfielder and the current head coach of Vancouver Victory. After his professional career with the Timbers, Ready moved to Tajikistan where he played professionally for Vakhsh Qurghonteppa and later headed up the development of football in Tajikistan, [1] before returning to Portland Timbers as a chaplain.

Career

Youth

Ready attended Mead Senior High School. While in high school, he played for the Spokane Shadow of the USISL, continuing with the team through his collegiate career. In 1999, he entered the University of Washington where he played on the men's soccer team. He redshirted his junior season after breaking his leg during the 2001 pre-season. [2]

Professional

On December 17, 2003, the Seattle Sounders selected Ready in the first round of the USL First Division draft. [3] The Sounders did not sign him as he decided to pursue trials with teams in Norway. Ready was wanted by Clubs IK Start and Skeid of the Norway's Professional League, but was unable to obtain a work permit. At the end of this year, he returned to the Spokane Shadow. Ready played with the Shadow for eight years and tallied more appearances than anyone in club history. Premier Development League. [4] In 2005, he moved to the Cascade Surge of the PDL, playing eleven games. [5] On March 30, 2006, Ready signed with the Portland Timbers of the USL First Division. He played three seasons before needing a surgery. Ready moved to Tajikistan in 2009, signing with Vakhsh Qurghonteppa with whom he won the Tajik League with in 2009, before returning to the US after four seasons. [6]

Administrative

In the autumn of 2010, Ready struck a deal with his former club Portland Timbers, to supply Vakhsh's youth teams with sports equipment. In February 2013, Ready was appointed as Technical Director of the Tajikistan Football Federation. [7] In this role, Ready has expanded the number of youth clubs to 18, 12 male and 6 female, and also opened a national goalkeeper academy. [1]

Managerial

On 16 February 2017, Ready was appointed as manager of Evergreen Premier League side Vancouver Victory. [8]

The 2009 Vancouver Whitecaps season was the club's 24th year of existence, as well as their 17th and 2nd last year as a Division 2 club in the franchise model of US-based soccer leagues. Vancouver was officially named an MLS expansion city on March 18, 2009. Following the end of the 2010 season, the Whitecaps FC joined MLS, becoming the second Canadian club and 19th overall to enter the league.

The 2005 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season was the club's 19th year of play, as well as their 13th as a Division 2 club in the franchise model of US-based soccer leagues. They played in the now defunct USL First Division which in 2005 was rebranded from A-League and was the highest level of Canadian club soccer. 2005 was Bob Lilley's first season as head coach after Tony Fonseca was released to take on the new District Development Centre Technical Director position with the BCSA. Under Tony Fonseca the Whitecaps had playoffs qualifications three straight years and advanced to the semifinals once. Part of the re-organization of BC youth soccer involved the Whitecaps expanding their youth program to ten Super Y League teams. The Whitecaps were one of only a few US or Canadian clubs with a complete youth system. MLS teams in 2005 did not have as extensive a club structure.

Fusion had previously been on a two-year hiatus from the league due to Covid shutdowns, but returned to win the National Championship in 2022. During the 2021 season, Smith took an interim position as First Team Coach at Detroit City FC. This was to provide short-term help to the Head Coach and General manager, Trevor James. Detroit went onto win the NISA Legends tournament that same season.

The 2018 USL season was the eighth season of the United Soccer League and second under Division II sanctioning. The previous season, the USL had provisional Div. II sanctioning from the United States Soccer Federation along with the North American Soccer League, but was given full sanctioning for the 2018 season with a two-year deadline to meet the full requirements set by U.S. Soccer.
