The stadium is named after a national hero from the region Tuanku Tambusai.

Other uses

PSBS Bangkinang use this stadium for their home games. [1] For the 2013 Indonesia Super League season because of financial problems, PSPS Pekanbaru used this stadium as an alternative for using the largerRumbai Stadium.

It was also used as one of the venue for the 2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional. [2]

Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is a retractable roof football stadium under construction at Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Indonesia. Once completed, it will be used as the home ground for Persija Jakarta, after moving from their current stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and will be mostly used for football matches. The stadium will be able to host 82,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Indonesia. Construction of the stadium was delayed due to land dispute and class action lawsuit by former squatters whose homes were demolished to make way for the stadium. Construction finally commenced in late 2019 and scheduled to be completed by December 2021.

2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or 2012 National Sports Week was a multi-sport event in Indonesia which was held in Riau from 9–20 September 2012. The previous edition was held in East Kalimantan. Thousands of athletes, officials, and journalists all across of Indonesian provinces participated to the game.

Sheikh Haji Muhammad Saleh is one of the Islamic leaders for the padri movement. Tuanku Tambusai, as he was well known in Indonesia was one of the leaders who fought the colonial invaders during the Padri Wars in 1838 along with his contemporaries, Tuanku Imam Bonjol and Tuanku Rao.

Tuanku Rao (1790-1833) was an Islamic cleric (ulama), leader and commander. He was known as a prominent padri, a group of Islamic reformists who advocated for the puritanical approach in Islam inspired by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab in the early 18th century West Sumatra. He also contributed to the proselytization of Islam among Batak people. He died during the Padri War in 1833.
