The Tucson Mirage played two exhibition games in the Indoor Professional Football League (PIFL) in 1998, losing both. The Mirage was scheduled to join the league as a full-time team in 1999, but this never happened.

Indoor Professional Football League

The Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL) was the new incarnation of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL), which started in 1998. Two of its teams left the league and their owner, Kerry Ecklund, founded the Indoor Football League in 1999. The IPFL led a troubled three-year existence, and died after its 2001 season, with its most successful teams joining up with the National Indoor Football League.

Utah Catzz

The Utah Catzz was a team in the United States Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) in 1998. The Catzz franchise was owned by Michael & Carla Curran, who also started a farm club for the Catzz, the Salt Lake Lions. The Catzz played their home games at the David O. McKay Events Center in Orem, UT., with the team office located in Salt Lake City, UT. The team's color's were: Blue, Red, and Purple. Utah's head coach for the 1998 season was Gordon Hudson.

Jason John Stanford is a former left-handed Major League Baseball starting pitcher and current Pitching coach for the rookie level Danville Braves. His father, Keith Stanford, still lives in Tucson. He is a 1995 graduate of Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, Arizona, a suburb of Tucson. Stanford attended Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, in 1996 and 1997, where he was an Academic All-American. In 1998 and 1999, he attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and was an All-Conference USA selection both years. The Cleveland Indians signed Stanford as an amateur free agent in November 1999.

Andrew Lopez is a retired American college baseball coach. He was most recently the head baseball coach at University of Arizona, and has served as the head baseball coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine, and Florida. Lopez compiled an overall win-loss record of 1,177–742–7 in thirty-three seasons as a head coach.

Steve Webber is the current pitching coach for the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers of the Pacific Coast League, a farm team of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Webber played college baseball at Southern Illinois University and participated in the 1969 College World Series. Darren Sawatzky is an American soccer coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the Richmond Kickers in USL League One. He spent four seasons in Major League Soccer, one season in the Major Indoor Soccer League, one in USISL and five in the United Soccer Leagues. He currently holds several coaching positions at the high school, collegiate and professional levels and was the Director of Youth Development for Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer. In January 2015, he was named head coach of the Tacoma Stars of the Major Arena Soccer League.

Kevin Guy is an arena football coach and former wide receiver and defensive back who is the head coach for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He played his college football at the University of West Alabama, and was an AFL wide receiver and defensive back from 1996 to 1999. He has been a football coach since 2000, and first served as a head coach in 2000 as the interim head coach for the New Jersey Red Dogs. After being the defensive coordinator for the San Jose SaberCats from 2006 to 2007, he became the Rattlers head coach in 2008. In 2018, he and his wife Cathy became two of the co-owners of a new Tucson-based IFL franchise, called the Tucson Sugar Skulls, set to play in 2019.

Mark William Lamb is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, and current general manager and head coach of the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Lamb was previously the head coach of the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL. Lamb was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan but grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

The Tucson Roadrunners are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) that began play for the 2016–17 season. Based in Tucson, Arizona, and affiliated with the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes, the team plays its home games at the Tucson Convention Center.

The Tucson Sugar Skulls are a professional indoor American football team based in Tucson, Arizona. They are members of the Indoor Football League (IFL) since the 2019 season as an expansion team. They play home games at Tucson Convention Center's Tucson Arena. The team are led by owners Kevin & Cathy Guy and Ali Farhang. Kevin Guy also serves as head coach and general manager of the Arizona Rattlers of the IFL.

The 2020 USL League One season will be the league's second season. The regular season will consist of a 28–game schedule will began on March 27 and will end on October 3. The top six teams will make the playoffs, with the top two teams qualifying for the Semifinals. The First Round is scheduled for October 9–11, the Semifinals on October 16–18 and the League Final on October 22–25. Nine teams return from the inaugural season, while three new teams enter for the first time; MLS reserve teams Fort Lauderdale CF and New England Revolution II, and expansion club Union Omaha. North Texas SC return as defending champions.
