Turabo University at Gurabo is commonly referred as the University of Turabo and known as Universidad del Turabo (UT) or UT-Gurabo in Spanish. It is a private university located in the municipality of Gurabo, Puerto Rico. It was established in 1969 as a secondary campus for the Puerto Rico Junior College.
In 1972 it gained autonomy under the name of Colegio Universitario del Turabo, and in 1982 it received authorization from the Council on Higher Education of Puerto Rico to be renamed as the Universidad del Turabo.

María Elena ("Mari") Batista is a former sports administrator in Puerto Rico. As the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico's longest-serving Director of Sports and Recreation from January 2001, to January 2012, she helped revive the previously underused and dilapidated Hiram Bithorn Stadium, attracting MLB's Opening Day Game in 2001, twenty-two yearly home games of the now defunct Montreal Expos in 2003 and 2004, the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic games and a series of MLB New York Mets games in 2010. In the summer of 2006, she brought NBA's "Basketball Without Borders" program to San Juan. In September 2006, Mayor Jorge Santini inaugurated the San Juan Municipal Sports Magnet School. In December 2006, another of her projects, the $28 million San Juan Natatorium opened to the public and attracted winter training from over 10 stateside college swim teams, including the United States Military Academy. In March 2007 she personally began a campaign to rescue low-income youths who were dangerously diving off city bridges into polluted waters and introducing them to the diving facilities at the new Natatorium.
Pablo Marcano García, is a Puerto Rican artist. He holds a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey. In 1975 he completed all his partial requirements for obtaining his Master's and Doctorate, simultaneously, in Political Science at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In January 1985, his book The Criminality and Crisis of Prisons in Puerto Rico was published, which has been used by prominent sociologists, criminologists, and jurists in the country's universities.
The Inter-university Athletic League, often abbreviated LAI, is a college athletics conference in the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The LAI is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to regulate sports amongst its member institutions. The league was founded in 1929 by Cosme Beitía of the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras, Charles Leker for the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, and Luis Izquierdo Galo y José D. Morales from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. The league is best known for its flagship inter-collegiate sports event locally called Las Justas which takes place yearly during the month of April, generally in the city of Ponce.

The Caguas Valley, or the Caguas-Juncos Valley, and popularly referred to as the Turabo Valley, is a large valley lying between the two mountain subranges of the Cordillera Central, Sierra de Cayey and Sierra de Luquillo, in the eastern region of the main island of Puerto Rico. From west to east, the valley is concentrated in the municipalities of Caguas, Gurabo, San Lorenzo, Juncos, Las Piedras, and Humacao.
Altos de San Luis, also known as Monte Altos de San Luis, is an 886 feet high and two-mile-long prominent mountain ridge located on the northern edge of the Caguas Valley, in barrio (district) Bairoa of Caguas, Puerto Rico. The ridge is bordered by the Loíza River to the north and the east, and it forms part of a larger system of mountain ridges that extends from the southwestern end of the Sierra de Luquillo in Gurabo to the northeastern end of the Cordillera Central in Aguas Buenas. Other mountains and hills along this system include the Altos de La Mesa and Cerro La Marquesa. These ridges are shaped by the Great Northern Puerto Rico fault zone (GNPRfz), an active fault zone which crosses the island diagonally from southeast to northwest.
