Turkish Engine Center (TEC) is a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and Turkish Technic for the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of CFM56 and V2500 turbofan aircraft engines.
TEC is located at Istanbul’s smaller international airport, Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Anatolia. TEC started operations in January 2010 and has an annual capacity of 200 shop visits. The facility occupies approximately 25,000 m2 (269,000 square feet). TEC currently employs around 250 people. Its repair capabilities include an information technology system, enhanced with methodology for engine overhaul practices, that provides services to airline operators in Europe, Middle East, North Africa, and CIS countries.
TEC has a B1 rating capability which includes inspection, testing, repair, modification, and overhaul of the listed engines, including powerplant/EBU hardware and electrical harnesses.

The CFM International CFM56 series is a Franco-American family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines made by CFM International (CFMI), with a thrust range of 18,500 to 34,000 lbf. CFMI is a 50–50 joint-owned company of Safran Aircraft Engines of France, and GE Aerospace (GE) of the United States. GE produces the high-pressure compressor, combustor, and high-pressure turbine, Safran manufactures the fan, gearbox, exhaust and the low-pressure turbine, and some components are made by Avio of Italy and Honeywell from the US. Both companies have their own final assembly line, GE in Evendale, Ohio, and Safran in Villaroche, France. The engine initially had extremely slow sales but has gone on to become the most used turbofan aircraft engine in the world.

Turkish Airlines Flight 1878 was an international passenger flight from Milan–Malpensa Airport, Italy to Atatürk Airport, Istanbul, Turkey. On 25 April 2015, the aircraft rolled sharply just before landing, causing a very hard touchdown resulting in substantial damage to the starboard wing and a fire. A go-around was initiated, and the aircraft positioned for a second approach attempt but veered off the runway on the second landing. All 102 passengers and crew survived unharmed.
