A five-time Grammy Award winner, Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the United States Billboard 200 chart and charted four number-one singles in the US within a 12-month period. Summer has reportedly sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. The song became popular during the disco period and is widely credited as "one of the most influential records ever made", originating electronic dance music. Moroder described Summer's work with him on the song as "really the start of electronic dance" music. In 2011, the Library of Congress added the song to the National Recording Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important". Outside the United States, the song topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Critical reception

Michaelangelo Matos from Resident Advisor described the song as "effortlessly built, but the chorus is its weakest point—the close-voiced, quick-sung up-and-down part, specifically. [...], though—the Auto-tune layers are judicious and give an already sheeny performance some extra shine." [2]
