Turner Stadium is a multi-purpose outdoor athletic stadium located on the campus of Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. It serves as the home field for the Taylor Trojans' football and soccer (men's and women's) teams. [1] The stadium features an artificial turf field, lighting for night games, and a seating capacity of 4,400 spectators. [1]
The site of Turner Stadium previously housed Jim Wheeler Memorial Stadium. [1] A significant renovation of the facility occurred in the summer of 2012, which included the installation of a new artificial turf field, lights, a scoreboard, and new bleachers. This transformed the venue into a modern facility suitable for multiple sports. [1] In the summer of 2015, the stadium received further upgrades, most notably a new press box with hospitality areas, brick pillars, and a pergola. Following these improvements, the facility was officially renamed and dedicated as Turner Stadium. [2] The naming honored the family of 1974 Taylor alumnus and longtime university supporter, Eric Turner, and his wife Cyndy. [2] Additional updates, including the replacement of the turf surface, were completed prior to the 2022 athletic seasons. [1] The area adjacent to the stadium, which includes Odle Arena and Winterholter Field, was also improved and designated as Turner Plaza to honor Paul and Betty Turner. [2]
Turner Stadium hosts the Taylor Trojans football program, which competes in the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA), as well as the Taylor men's and women's soccer teams, which compete in the Crossroads League. Key features of the stadium include a regulation artificial turf field, a seating capacity of 4,400, a press box situated above the west stands, and lights for hosting evening events. [1]
