Moctezuma de Orizaba was a Mexican football team that played in the Liga Mexicana de Football Amateur Association prior to the professionalization and development of the Mexican first division. The club was based in the city of Orizaba and folded in 1950.

The Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Amateur Association, known as the Primera Fuerza, was an amateur football league founded in Mexico in 1902 with five clubs: "Orizaba A.C.", "Pachuca A.C.", "Reforma A.C.", "Mexico Cricket Club" and "British Club". Orizaba won the league in its inaugural year. A total of 37 teams took part in this league from 1902 until 1943, when football in Mexico went professional.

Orizaba is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located 20 km west of its sister city Córdoba, and is adjacent to Río Blanco and Ixtaczoquitlán, on Federal Highways 180 and 190. The city had a 2005 census population of 117,273 and is almost coextensive with its small municipality, with only a few small areas outside the city. The municipality's population was 117,289 and it has an area of 27.97 km².

History

The club was founded in 1932 by workers from the Montezuma brewery in Orizaba Veracruz. The team was created to play sports in their spare time and once the owner of the brewery saw the men he decided to sponsor the club and so the club took on the brewery name Club Moctezuma de Orizaba and joined the amateur league in Veracruz.

Ricardo Álvarez is a Mexican former Primera División player who started his career playing in the amateur league in the 1930s with club Moctezuma de Orizaba. He later transferred to Puebla FC where he played 120 games over 5 years and scored 87 goals, and is remembered as a club icon. In 1950 he left to play for Veracruz where he played for a couple months before retiring. He scored 113 goals in his career.

The 1944-45 Puebla season was the first professional season of Mexico's top-flight football league. This was the first season the club played in the Mexican professional league. The club had joined a year after the league began competition in 1943. Puebla finished second in the league to Club Espana and managed to establishment itself as one of the countries powerful clubs.
