The 1962 UAAP men's basketball tournament was the 25th year of the men's tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s basketball championship. Hosted by National University, the UE Warriors defeated the UP Parrots in a single game finals taking their fourth UAAP men's basketball championship.

Underrated University of the East recaptured the UAAP senior cage championship by demolishing University of the Philippines, 70-55, before a crowd of 5,000 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The Warriors lost the title to Far Eastern University the previous year.
Coach Baby Dalupan, the winningest mentor in the circuit with then four championships tucked on his belt, hinged on the shooting of Carlos Quitzon, Angelito Flores and Norman de Vera, the excellent rebounding of Godofredo Realubit and Jimmy Mariano and heads-up defensive plays by rookie Nathaniel Canson, the speediest dribbler of the league, to post the victory. The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) holds its basketball tournaments from September to December. Basketball is a mandatory sport in the UAAP. All eight universities participate in the Men's, Women's, and Juniors (Boys') tournaments.
The National University Bulldogs are the collegiate men's varsity teams of National University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The UST Growling Tigers men's basketball is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Santo Tomas. The Growling Tigers have won 19 men's basketball titles including one National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship. It is one of the winningest teams in University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men's basketball with 18 titles, just behind the FEU Tamaraws and tied with the UE Red Warriors. The Growling Tigers also participate in Millennium Basketball League Invitational. As of January 11, 2018, the team's head coach is Aldin Ayo.

Hosted by University of Santo Tomas, the UE Warriors defeated the UST Glowing Goldies two games to one in the best of three finals series taking their sixth overall UAAP men's basketball championship. The finals featured two future inductees to the PBA 25 Greatest Players and Hall of Fame: Danilo Florencio of UST and Robert Jaworski of UE.
The 1970 UAAP men's basketball tournament was the 33rd year of the men's tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s basketball championship. Hosted by University of Santo Tomas, the UE Warriors defeated the NU Bulldogs in the finals taking their eleventh overall and sixth straight UAAP men's basketball championship. The Warriors would eventually win the title the following year achieving a league record seven-peat. This was National University's first finals appearance in 15 years since they were beaten by UST for the title round in 1955. This was also NU's last finals appearance prior to their 2014 championship title.
