Udaan (translated: Talking Flight) is a Nepali music album launched by singer Shweta Punjali in April 2015. It contains six songs (see below) all of which are composed by award-winning Nepali music composer Nhyoo Bajracharya and written by noted Nepali and Newari poet Durga Lal Shrestha. [1] [2] [3]

Nepal country in South Asia

Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is located mainly in the Himalayas but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Shweta Punjali is a Nepali musician, well known for her debut album Udaan a number of songs from which were nominated at various national music awards. She is also the winner of the Best New Talent award at the 2016 Nepali Music Video Award and was a nominee for Best Newcomer at the 2015 Tuborg Image Music Award.

Nhyoo Bajracharya

Nhyoo Bajracharya is a Nepali music composer and singer. He is widely regarded as one of the best music composers in Nepali music industry. He has composed dozens of famous songs in Nepali, Nepalbhasa and Hindi, and one song in Chinese. He is also remembered for his compositions for Ani Choying Dolma with his fusion style music. Some of his hit compositions are Saya Thari Baja Eutai Taal, Shanti Lukau Kaha, Phool ko Aakhama, Laaija Chari, Kya Bore Bhayo, Aadhi Baato Hide Pachi Timi Sita Bhet Vayo, Orali Lageko, among many others. He has also sung some of the songs but he is better known as a music composer. His songs have been sung by Ani Choying Dolma, Ram Krishna Dhakal, Yogeshwor Amatya, Shreya Ghosal, to name just a few.

The album is the first mainstream Nepali music album (fully produced in Nepal) to be released on online music stories, including iTunes Store, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer and other such stores. [4] [5]

iTunes Store digital media store

The iTunes Store is a software-based online digital media store operated by Apple Inc. that opened on April 28, 2003, as a result of Steve Jobs' push to open a digital marketplace for music. As of January 2017, iTunes offered over 35-40 million songs, 2.2 million apps, 25,000 TV shows, and 65,000 films. When it opened, it was the only legal digital catalog of music to offer songs from all five major record labels. As of June 2013, iTunes Store possessed 575 million active user accounts, and served over 315 million mobile devices, including Apple Watches, iPods, iPhones, Apple TV and iPads.

Google Play Music online music locker, music store, and music streaming service

Google Play Music is a music and podcast streaming service and online music locker operated by Google. The service was announced on May 10, 2011, and after a six-month, invitation-only beta period, it was publicly launched on November 16, 2011.

Amazon Music Amazon.coms online music store

Amazon Music is a music streaming platform and online music store operated by Amazon.com. Launched in public beta on September 25, 2007, in January 2008 it became the first music store to sell music without digital rights management (DRM) from the four major music labels, as well as many independents. All tracks were originally sold in 256 kilobits-per-second variable bitrate MP3 format without per-customer watermarking or DRM; however, some tracks are now watermarked. Licensing agreements with recording companies restrict which countries music can be sold.

Three songs from the album were nominated for top music awards in Nepal, including one for the best music and one for the best music video. Shweta Punjali, the singer of the album was award the Best New Artist Award at the national music award for the song 'Achammai Lagyo Malai'. [6]

Arpan Thapa Nepali actor, director, and scriptwriter

Albatross is a Nepali rock band from Kathmandu, Nepal. Formed in 1998 as a three-piece school band, Albatross has made a landmark in the Nepali music scene. It all began when a couple of guys joined hands came together with their rusted guitars and other old instruments to transcend the sound of Nepali Alternative music, each of which has significantly influenced the music which the band creates. The band's fast tempos, signature chord progression and contemporary compositions has made them one of the pioneers of rock music in Nepal.
