Udhaya is an Indian actor who has acted in Tamil language films. He is the son of noted producer A. L. Azhagappan and the brother of director A. L. Vijay. [1]

Udhaya got married in August 2007 to Keerthika. [2]

Career

Udhaya began his acting career in 1998 under his original name of Senthilkumar, by appearing in Ini Ellam Sugame (1998) produced by his father. [3] Udhaya then starred in Bharathi Kannan's Thirunelveli playing a lead role alongside Prabhu and Karan and being paired opposite Vindhya. The film won poor reviews, with Udhaya's performance being described as "average". [4] He was next seen opposite Vijayalakshmi in Kalakalappu, which also featured Napoleon and Jaya Seal, with a critic noting that "he plays his role well, but has to improve his voice modulation." [5] He also thereafter appeared in Shakkalaka Baby, while another film titled Poonguyile, featuring him alongside Vindhya and Livingston, was shelved after several schedules. [6] [7] [8]

In 2001, his father A. L. Azhagappan attempted to launch Udhaya as the main lead in a film titled Ennil Kalanthavalae, but the project did not develop. [9] In 2004, the actor announced a project titled Asamy, and held a grand launch event, but the film failed to progress. [10] During this period, he was also working on two projects which remain unreleased - the Prakash Raj-starrer Kaadhal Jaathi and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, with the latter being used as the title for an unrelated project in 2010 by Gautham Vasudev Menon. [11] Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was later released as Unnai Kann Theduthe in 2009, while in 2011, the actor hit out at Kaadhal Jaathi's director Kasthuri Raja, claiming that the director himself was blocking the release of the film. Udhaya's 2011 venture Raa Raa won positive reviews, but went unnoticed at the box office, while his other release Poova Thalaiya, alongside Sherin also met with an average response. He later played a supporting role in his brother's Thalaivaa (2013), before working on the low-budget horror film Aavi Kumar.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, starring Silambarasan and Trisha. Jointly produced by Elred Kumar, Jayaraman, VTV Ganesh and P. Madan under the banner Escape Artists Motion Pictures and RS Infotainment, the film was distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. The story was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Ye Maaya Chesave, starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, however, with a different cast.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa is the soundtrack of the 2010 Tamil romance film of the same name, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman, collaborating with Menon for the first time. The lyrics for the songs were penned by Menon's usual associate, Thamarai along with Kalyani Menon and Kaithapram, the latter penning the Malayalam lyrics in the album. The album was released on 25 December 2009 in London with several film personalities participating at the grand function. It was the first time that a Tamil film audio release was held in London. It was followed by an audio launch function which was also held in Chennai on 6 January 2010. Sony Music released the album worldwide. The album opened to critical acclaim from music critics. The audio was marked as #1 in Asia, in terms of advance bookings. The album was ranked among the best musicals of 2010. A collector's edition of the film was released on 1 December 2010, which featured two unreleased tracks. The same soundtrack album was reused in the simultaneous Telugu version Ye Maaya Chesave (2010) and its Hindi remake Ekk Deewana Tha (2012).

Raa Raa is a 2011 Tamil romantic comedy film written and directed by Sandilya, starring Udhaya and Shweta Basu Prasad, in her Tamil film debut, in lead roles. The title refers to the Royapuram and Royapettah, two areas in Chennai. The film was launched in December 2010, and released on 7 October 2011 to mixed reviews.

N. Maharajan is an Indian film director who directed Tamil and Hindi films. He made his debut with Vallarasu and directed other films Anjaneya and Arasatchi. He had provided scripts for Hindi films Zor and Champion
