Umaru Gomwalk

Umara D. Gomwalk is a Nigerian academic. He was the first Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri and the Sole Administrator of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1994-1998). [1] He was also professor emeritus of Medicine of University of Nigeria Nsukka. [2] He preceded Ginigeme Francis Mbanefoh [3] as the sole administrator of the institution. [4] His administration had crises to deal with from its take over of VC role from Oleka Udeala until handing over in 1999 with Ginigeme Francis Mbanefoh. [5] Gomwalk was at various times a teacher and Chairman, Presidential Advisory Council and the Governing Council of the Nigerian National Merit Award. He died on May 12, 2019, at the age of 83. [6]

He was an emissary at OAU-sponsored peace talks.

Aliu Babatunde Fafunwa. He was the first Nigerian Professor of Education. He was a Nigerian Educationist, Scholar and Former Minister for Education. As Minister, he was in charge of the biggest school system in Africa. He is known for his early writings on the need to re-appraise the inherited colonial epistemological system in Nigeria and to introduce relevant cultural goals, subjects and local languages into the system, in order to accommodate the developmental and cultural pattern of the country. He is also a notable authority on the History of Educational Planning in Nigeria.

Ibrahim Khalil Umar is a Nigerian scientist and university administrator. He was Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria from 1979 to 1986. He holds a B.Sc. in physics and mathematics from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, a M.Sc. in physics from Northern Illinois University, USA and a Ph.D. (1974) in physics at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. In 1976 he became the first Nigerian academic in physics to teach at Bayero University. In 1978 he served on the national constitutional assembly that drafted the Constitution of the 2nd Republic.

University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan, which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest land areas, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023, it was announced by the JAMB Head, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University, for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), making it for the 10th consecutive year.

Alexander Obiefoka Enukora Animalu is a Nigerian academic, who is Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri, formerly the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri is located in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Nigeria. It was established in April, 1963 as the Advanced Teachers Training College by the defunct Eastern Nigeria Government on the grounds of the Old Shell Camp, Owerri. It has since expanded across the Orlu Road on the banks of the Nworie River. It awards the National Certificate in Education (NCE) and the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) and, in affiliation, with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) since 1984. The university is headed by Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor (Administration) who was the erstwhile Provost of the college. She took over, in 2022, from Dr. Dan C. Anyanwu. Dr (Mrs.) Lemchi is the second female Provost of the college, after Professor Blessing C. Ijioma.

Kalu Mosto Onuoha is a Nigerian Professor Emeritus of Geology. In January 2017, he became the president of the Nigerian Academy of Science after previously serving as its treasurer (2010–2013), vice president (2013–2015), and president-elect in 2016.

Umaru Shehu was a Nigerian physician and academic administrator. He held significant positions in several universities, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Maiduguri. He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN).

Ositadimma Chinedu Nebo is currently the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, located in Umunya, Anambra State. He is also an archdeacon in the Anglican Church, a professor of engineering and former vice chancellor of the University of Nigeria succeeded by Bath Okolo. was appointed minister of power by the Nigerian former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on February 4, 2013. Prior to his appointment, Nebo was the vice chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti from 2010 to 2013.

Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba is a Nigerian Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology who served as the 14th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He succeeded Bath Okolo who was the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria. After his tenure, he handed over to the current Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe. Ozumba served as the provost of the college of medicine of the same university between the years 2004 and 2008. The University of Nigeria became the first university in Nigeria to assemble laptops when he was appointed Vice Chancellor and the university opened its first indigenous University Laptop Assembly Complex. The first batch of laptops bearing the Lion brand were released. UNN also founded the Lion Science Park, Nigeria's first university-based science park. A gasification plant was constructed to create synthetic gas from organic solid materials for use in the production of electric power and other uses for the University of Nigeria community. During his tenure also, the University of Nigeria held the first position amongst Nigerian universities in the Webometrics University Ranking for more than three times in Google Scholar citation profiles.

Ginigeme Francis Mbanefoh was a Nigerian academic. He served as the 11th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He hails from Eziowelle, Idemili of Anambra State. He succeeded Umaru Gomwalk. He came in at a time when the university was said to have been in a deep-seated crisis. He was praised for his nearness to his people and his ability to give the institution's host community a sense of belonging, an act that earned him traditional titles from both his town and the Nsukka Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers. His PhD thesis was titled Allocation of Road Funds in Nigeria: An Evaluation, issued in 1976. He died on February 8, 2017. His funeral at his country home of Eziowelle on May 5, 2017, was well attended by dignitaries from all over the federation.

Oleka Kelechi Udeala is a Nigerian professor of pharmacy and university administrator. He was the ninth Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the first head of the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Port Harcourt.

Chimere Eyo-Ita Ikoku, was a Nigerian professor of Pure and Industrial Chemistry who served as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the first Vice Chancellor of UNN to serve full two term.

Frank Nwachukwu Ndili was the 1st Nigerian Nuclear Physicist and the 7th Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He served as Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1980 until he was succeeded by professor Chimere Ikoku in 1985. He left the office after a long and controversial investigation by the panel of inquiry. However, he is believed to have been forthright even where his predecessor Umaru Shehu (1978-1979) threaded carefully. He is credited with being one of the most visionary Vice Chancellors of the University. During Professor Ndili's Vice-Chancellorship, effort was undertaken for the first time to rebuild and refurbish the University of Nigeria following its devastation by the Nigerian Civil War. Ndili envisioned that the University would be destined for world-class status and designed a Master Plan to that effect. Today, the grand University entryway, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, the School of General Studies, and the Faculty of Arts Complex stand as testimony to his grand vision. He is not only a scientist, he is a great teacher, a top administrator, and a positive strategist.

Francis Chukwuemeka Eze is a Nigerian physicist and researcher. He was the vice chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri. He is a recipient of the Commonwealth Academy Staff Scholarship award, Association Commonwealth Universities, London, 1983; grantee, International Committee Science Unions, India, 1995. Member of Nigerian University Physics Series, Nigerian Institute Physics.

Chinwe Nwogo Ezeani, is a Nigerian Chartered Librarian and the immediate past University Librarian of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (U.N.N.). She is a Professor of Library and Information Science. Her tenure as a University Librarian (UL) at Nnamdi Azikiwe Library was between March 2014-March 2019. She is the first female University Librarian since the inception of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria Nsukka. In April, 2021, Dr. Ilo Promise Ifeoma took over as the current University Librarian of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, (U.N.N)

Nancy Ekwulira Achebe is a Nigerian professor of library and information science. She is the first vice president of the Nigerian School Library Association (NSLA) and the current head of the department of Library and Information Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). She has also been the director of the School of General Studies at UNN, and has published about 70 articles in journals and newspapers.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Charles Arizechukwu Igwe</span> Nigerian professor of soil sciences

Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe is a Nigerian professor of soil science and the 15th Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the university in the year 1976 as a soil survey assistant and in 1976 he became an academic staff of the institution. In 2016, Charles was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and re-appointed in 2018.
