Plot summary

The film follows Christina, a dedicated police officer, as she investigates a murder on a remote farm. As she delves deeper into the case, she uncovers not only the truth behind the crime but also her own family's history. The haunting legacy of colonization and the brutal genocide that occurred during the early 20th century weigh heavily on Christina's shoulders. [5] [6] "Under the Hanging Tree" intertwines Herero mysticism, proverbs, and mythology with the tale of a tough female cop investigating the death of a German farmer found hanging from a tree once used to execute her ancestors during the German colonial era. The film stars Girley Jazama as police officer Christina Mureti and features performances by Dawie Engelbrecht, Roya Diehl, and David Ndjavera in his final feature film. [7]

The White Line is a 2019 Namibian drama romantic history film directed by Desiree Kahikopo-Meiffret and co-produced by director herself along with Fetteroff Colen, Girley Jazamam, Prudence Kolong and Micheal Pulse. Measures of Men is a 2023 German drama film directed by Lars Kraume. Starring Leonard Scheicher as an ethnologist, the film tells the story of the Herero and Namaqua genocide which was perpetrated in German South West Africa between 1904 and 1908. It had its world premiere on 22nd February 2023 at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in Berlinale Special. It was released in cinemas on March 23, 2023. Measures of Men is about Germany’s colonial history and relegates the Nama and Ovaherero.
