Union Fair

The Union Fair is an annual agricultural fair in Union, Maine. [1] It began in 1869 and, since 1886, all fairs in Knox County have taken place in Union. [2] [3]

Contents

No fair was held in 1917–18, 1942–45 nor 2020.

For many years the fair started on the third Saturday before Labor Day and run for eight days closing on the following Saturday. The fair now takes place in late July.

The Common Ground Country Fair, also known as the Common Ground Fair, is an agricultural fair in Unity, Maine held the third weekend after Labor Day and sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA). It is held at the Common Ground Education Center. It was first held in 1977. The fair "celebrates organic living, farming and growing," and all the food sold at the event must be organic. The fair regularly hosts 50,000 to 60,000 people.

The Smokey Bear Show is an American-Japanese animated television series that aired on ABC's Saturday morning schedule, produced by Rankin/Bass Productions. The show features Smokey Bear, the icon of the United States Forest Service, who was well known for his 1947 slogan, "Remember... only YOU can prevent forest fires". It aired for one season of 17 episodes starting on September 6, 1969, and then aired in reruns for the 1970–1971 season. When the show was lacking in competition with Bugs Bunny and other renowned cartoons at the time, it was cancelled. The show is largely lost, as only 4 of the 17 episodes have been recovered as of October 15, 2023.

Smokey's Greater Shows is a traveling carnival midway company based in Fryeburg, Maine, United States. It provides amusement rides, games and concessions for local, county and state fairs throughout Maine. It appeared at the Fryeburg Fair for over forty years, before its partnership ended in 2022.
