Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) is an 877-bed tertiary care hospital, education and research complex at the western edge of the New Center area in Detroit, Michigan. The flagship facility for the Henry Ford Health System, it was one of the first hospitals in the United States to use a standard fee schedule and favor private or semi-private rooms over large wards. It was the first hospital in the country to form a closed, salaried medical staff. As founder Henry Ford viewed tobacco as being unhealthy, the hospital was one of the first in the United States to institute a total ban on smoking. Henry Ford Hospital is staffed by the Henry Ford Medical Group, one of the nation's largest and oldest group practices with 1,200 physicians in more than 40 specialties.

The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSUCHM) is an academic division of Michigan State University (MSU) that grants the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, emphasizing patient-centered care and a biopsychosocial approach to caring for patients. Required courses at the college reinforce the importance of ethics and professionalism in medicine. In 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked the college 46th for primary care. The college was also ranked for family medicine and rural medicine. More than 4,000 M.D.s have graduated from the college. Pre-clinical campuses are located on MSU's main campus in East Lansing, Michigan and in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, while the clinical rotations are at seven community campuses located throughout Michigan.

University of Michigan Health - Sparrow Lansing is a 733-bed teaching hospital located in Lansing, Michigan that provides care for the greater Mid-Michigan region. The hospital is a subsidiary of University of Michigan Health - Sparrow, and is affiliated with the Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine at nearby Michigan State University. University of Michigan Health - Sparrow Lansing operates the only dedicated pediatric and adult emergency department in the region. The emergency department is a level I trauma center, as verified by the American College of Surgeons. It is also a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. University of Michigan Health - Sparrow Lansing also has modern operating rooms, multiple helipads, an oncology center, heart and vascular center, and orthopedic department. In addition, 4,500 births are performed annually.
Spectrum Health System, commonly known as Spectrum Health, was a not-for-profit, integrated, managed care health care organization based in West Michigan. It merged with Beaumont Health of Metro Detroit in 2022 to form Corewell Health. Spectrum Health's subsidiaries included hospitals, treatment facilities, urgent care facilities, as well as physician practices that served the western Michigan area. Priority Health was a subsidiary health plan with one million members. Spectrum Health was the largest employer in West Michigan at the time of the merger with 31,000 staff, 4,200 physicians and advanced practice providers, including 1,600 members of the Spectrum Health Medical Group, and 3,200 volunteers.

At the time of its merger, the health system had a net revenue of $4.7 billion and consisted of eight hospitals with 3,375 beds, 155 outpatient sites, nearly 5,000 physicians, more than 33,000 employees and about 2,000 volunteers. The flagship hospital of the system was the Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, located in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, Michigan.

Dayton Children's Hospital stylized as Dayton Children's formerly The Children's Medical Center of Dayton is a pediatric acute care children's teaching hospital located in Dayton, Ohio. The hospital has 181 pediatric beds and is affiliated the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–21 throughout western Ohio and the surrounding states. Dayton Children's Hospital is also an ACS verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

McLaren also maintains a hematology/oncology fellowship program in partnership with Michigan State University and is sponsoring a surgical oncology fellowship program. McLaren Greater Lansing, is a tertiary teaching facility with 240 acute care beds, located in Lansing, Michigan on the southern edge of the Michigan State University campus. Among its services are a Level III Trauma Center/Emergency Department, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute, cardiac programs, medical/surgical units, and women and children's health services including a birthing center. Also located at the healthcare campus is the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing and Outpatient Care Center.
The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) is one of the two public medical schools of Michigan State University, a public land-grant research university in East Lansing, Michigan. The college grants the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, as well as a DO-PhD combined degree for students interested in training as physician-scientists. MSUCOM operates two satellite campuses in Clinton Township and Detroit. The college is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and by the Higher Learning Commission.
