The University of Namibia Press, UNAM Press, is the dedicated scholarly publishing unit of the University of Namibia and is based at the Windhoek Main Campus. Established in 2002, it was officially inaugurated in February 2012 and has to date published books on history, law, language and science. Books published by the University of Namibia Press are distributed internationally by the African Books Collective. [1]
The Press has an editorial board composed of University of Namibia academics representing diverse disciplines. The UNAM Press unit is headed by a publisher who also acts as the Deputy Director of the University's Centre for Research and Publication. [2]
Memoirs published by the Press include a first person account of the first Namibian woman to receive military training during Namibia's liberation war, 'Mukwahepo', written as told to Ellen Ndeshi Namhila [3] and the biography of retired politician and medical doctor Libertina Amadhila 'Making a Difference'. Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in Southern Africa. Its western border is the Atlantic Ocean; it shares land borders with Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. Although it does not border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres of the Zambezi River separates the two countries. Namibia gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990, following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. Namibia is a member state of the United Nations (UN), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU) and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The University of Namibia (UNAM) is a multi-campus public research university in Namibia, as well as the largest university in the country. It was established by an act of Parliament on 31 August 1992.
Oshakati is a town of 37,000 inhabitants in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It is the regional capital and was officially founded in July 1966. The city was used as a base of operations by the South African Defence Force (SADF) during the South African Border War.
Delmi Álvarez is a Galician photojournalist and documentary photographer. His work documents migration phenomena, especially of the Galician diaspora, and environmental and human rights issues. He has organized and curated several photography projects with other international photographers.
The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), formerly known as Polytechnic of Namibia, is a public university located in the city of Windhoek, Namibia. Andrew Niikondo is its acting vice-chancellor. NUST was headed by the founding vice-chancellor Tjama Tjivikua until March 2019. After two acting appointments, Erold Naomab was appointed vice-chancellor in January 2021. The largely ceremonial role of chancellor of the university is held by Peter Katjavivi.
Ongwediva is a town in the Oshana Region in the north of Namibia. It is the district capital of the Ongwediva electoral constituency. As of 2010 it had 27,000 inhabitants and covered 4,102 hectares of land. Ongwediva has seven churches, two private schools and 13 government-run schools. Most of the inhabitants speak Oshiwambo.
Samuel Abraham Peyavali "Peya" Mushelenga is a Namibian politician and poet. A member of SWAPO, Mushelenga has been a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since 2005.
The Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) is a national student organisation in Namibia. It was founded on 2 June 1984 in Döbra, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) north of the capital Windhoek.
Ronald Himeekua Ketjijere is a Namibian football holding midfielder who plays for the Namibia national football team. He is the current captain of the Brave Warriors and can also play as an offensive midfielder.
Job Shipululo Amupanda is a Namibian activist and politician who is the current Mayor of the City of Windhoek, in office since 2 December 2020. Previously, he was an academic at the University of Namibia before he co-founded the Affirmative Repositioning movement, a movement setup by radical youth activists of the SWAPO Party Youth League in November 2014.
Judge Mark Bomani served as the second Attorney General of Tanzania from 1965 to 1976. Later he was a judge and ran a private law practice.
The School of Military Science is an academic unit of the Namibian Defence Force. As per international norm the School is a military unit of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and is co-located at the School of Military Science of the University of Namibia.

Kenneth Kamwi Matengu is a Namibian professor and vice-chancellor of the University of Namibia since 2018 after he replaced retired Prof. Lazarus Hangula in August 2018. He was Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Resources Mobilization at the University of Namibia from 2016 to 2018. On 29 June 2018, Matengu was appointed as the third vice-chancellor of the University of Namibia becoming the youngest person to assume the position.
Joseph Kalimbwe is a Zambian born youth activist, author and a former student leader in Namibia who served as president of the student representative council of the University of Namibia in 2017. In 2014, he was appointed president of the African Union youth simulation forum, a youth organized advocate program of the African Union. He has written for the Namibian Sun, and has published three books including Persecuted in Search of Change in 2017, The Pain of An Empty Stomach in 2015 and Teenage-Hood & the Impact of the Western World in 2014.
University of Namibia Student Representative Council was founded on 20 February 1992, and is recognised as the legal representative body for the students of the University of Namibia by the University of Namibia Act 18 of 1992. It is responsible for representing the interests of the students to the management of the University and to local and national government. It consists of representatives from all twelve campuses across Namibia.
Kornelia Kashiimbindjola Shilunga is a Namibian politician and Member of the National Assembly since 2015, she currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy. Shilunga holds two master's degrees, one in Business Administration with Eastern Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI), and another master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Namibia (UNAM), a bachelor's degree in Nursing Education and Community Health and a Diploma in Nursing Science General, Community Psychiatry and Midwifery Sciences, also from the University of Namibia and matriculated at Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary School in Ongwediva in 1989.
UNAM Choir is a gospel singing group of the University of Namibia. Based in Windhoek, it is the largest choir group in Namibia which represented the country at International shows including in United States and China. The group has produced 3 albums since its inception and in 2017, celebrated its 20th anniversary. It is led by group instructor Bonnie Pereko who has been the group's conductor since 1997.
Inna Koviao Hengari is a Namibian politician, student leader and youth activist. A member of the Popular Democratic Movement, she became a member of the National Assembly on 20 March 2020, the youngest since McHenry Venaani in 2004. Previously she served as Vice President of the UNAM SRC and the Students Union of Namibia.
