University of Surrey Boat Club (USBC) is the rowing club of the University of Surrey, England. The club rows out of Molesey Boat Club located on the River Thames and completes land training at Surrey Sports Park on the university's campus.

Squads

The University of Surrey Boat Club has beginner, senior and intermediate crews who all compete at races throughout the season and work hard during land and water sessions to help progress the club. [1] [2]

Beginners

The club has a large beginner programme that sees complete novices learn the basics of rowing, build technique and fitness to compete at some of the best events around the country. Furthermore, the programme aims to create the building blocks for progression onto the intermediate and senior rowing programmes.

Seniors

In recent years,[ when? ] the senior squad has been getting stronger. Integrating with Molesey Boat Club's development squad has seen Surrey athletes compete nationally and internationally and push for even larger events such as Henley Royal Regatta.

High performance athletes

Team Surrey [3] represents sport at Surrey University on behalf of the students' union, [4] and offers 12 HPASS (High Performance Athlete Support Scheme) places every year to Surrey students with 'exceptional sporting ability'. [5] [6] Athletes benefit from free use of Surrey Sports Park facilities, personalised strength and conditioning programmes, and physiotherapy and sports massage. This scholarship exists to enable athletes to excel at the top level.

BUCS Regatta

BUCS Regatta [7] 2015 saw success for USBC, taking gold in men's intermediate single scull as well as silvers in both champ lightweight single and champ double. [8]

Varsity

Until 2016, an annual rowing race between Kingston Students Rowing Club and USBC was held on the River Thames as part of the Varsity Games between the University of Surrey and Kingston University.

Molesey Boat Club

Molesey Boat Club is a rowing club between Molesey Lock and Sunbury Lock on the River Thames in England. The club was founded in 1866 where its boathouse stands with hardstanding next to the Thames Path.

Durham University Boat Club

Durham University Boat Club (DUBC) is the rowing club of Durham University. In recent years, DUBC has cemented itself as one of the strongest university boat clubs in Great Britain. Under the leadership of former British Olympian Wade Hall-Craggs, DUBC notably won the BUCS Victor Ludorum for ten consecutive years (2004-2013), and has produced a number of athletes that have competed internationally at European and World Championship level.

Newcastle University Boat Club

Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC) is the rowing club of Newcastle University, UK. Established in March 1911 as the boat club for Armstrong College, it celebrated its centenary in 2011, when was also appointed High Performance Programme for heavyweight men and women by British Rowing. In the past 20 years current students and alumni won 60 international vests for GB.

The Skiff Club is the oldest skiff and punting club in existence, having been founded in 1895. It is based on the River Thames in London, on the Middlesex bank between Teddington Lock and Kingston upon Thames.

University of London Boat Club British rowing club

University of London Boat Club is the rowing club for the University of London with membership open to students of all of its constituent colleges. ULBC is one of British Rowing's most senior and successful clubs, with a powerful alumni network. As with other collegiate universities, many of the University of London's colleges have their own boat clubs. Members of these college boat clubs who feel strong enough can trial for a place in the squad of The University Of London Boat Club to compete at an elite level. But the majority of student athletes who join the club do so with prior experience at an elite level. The club has its boat house on the River Thames in Chiswick, London, United Kingdom and is a designated High Performance Programme for GB Rowing, providing a pathway for athletes onto the U23 and Senior GB Rowing Teams

Walbrook Rowing Club

Walbrook Rowing Club, colloquially sometimes named Teddington Rowing Club, is a rowing club, on the River Thames in England on the Middlesex bank just above Teddington Lock at Trowlock Island, Teddington and downstream of Molesey Lock. It is the first non-tidal club on the weir-controlled Thames and is the organising club for Teddington Head of the River Race held in November for all classes of racing shells.

Walton Rowing Club

Walton Rowing Club is an amateur rowing club, on the River Thames in England. Its club and boat house is situated on the Surrey bank of the Thames at Walton-on-Thames just above Sunbury Lock. The club organises several rowing events, and members have competed at international level.

Tiffin School Boat Club

The Tiffin School Boat Club is an amateur rowing club, based in London, run by Tiffin School. It is based on the River Thames at Kingston upon Thames on the outskirts of Greater London in south-east England between Kingston Bridge and Teddington Lock.

Steve Trapmore

Stephen Patrick Trapmore is an English rowing coach and former rower who represented Great Britain at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He is currently the High Performance Coach within the Great Britain Olympic Rowing programme, developing athletes and crews to compete at World and Olympic competition.

Lancaster University Boat Club

Lancaster University Boat Club (LUBC) is the rowing club of Lancaster University. The club was founded in 1964 with the inception of the university by Sir Harold Parkinson and is the oldest sports club at the university. The club is based in the old Halton railway station and trains on a 3 km stretch of the River Lune, 3 miles north of Lancaster.

University of St Andrews Boat Club

The University of St Andrews Boat Club (UStABC), founded in 1962, is the rowing team affiliated to the University of St Andrews. Operating under the University of St Andrews Athletic Union, the club competes in head races and regattas across Scotland and England, including the Head of the River Race (London), British University Championships 'BUCS' Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. Its national governing body is Scottish Rowing and the registration code of 'SAU'.

Reading University Boat Club

Reading University Boat Club is the rowing club for the University of Reading. It is based on the River Thames in Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom. The club has a focus on sculling. It has been consistently one of the more successful university rowing clubs in Britain, including topping the medal table at the BUCS regatta in 2011 and at the BUCS small boats head in 2014 and 2015, as well as wins at Henley Royal Regatta in 1986, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013, and is considered one of the top six university rowing clubs in the UK. A number of former members have competed at the Olympics, including double gold-medallists James Cracknell and Helen Glover. The club has organised the Reading University Head of the River race since 1935.

University of York Boat Club

The University of York Boat Club (UYBC) is the rowing club of the University of York. It was founded in 1963 by Richard Miles. The club's boathouse is located along the River Ouse in Fulford, York, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The club is composed of four squads: Senior Women, Senior Men, Novice Women and Novice Men. It also runs sessions for university staff and the community. The boat club is a GB World Class Start center, and as of 2016 was the university's largest sports club, with over 200 members and a membership more than 50% female.
