The Urban (Shahr) International Film Festival held annually in Tehran, Iran by Tasvir Shahr Institute, is supervised by the Tehran Municipality's cultural and artistic organization. [1] [2] the eighth Urban International Film Festival was held from 18 to 22 July 2022 so far. [3] [4] [5]

Mania Akbari is an Iranian filmmaker, artist, writer, and curator whose works explore women's rights, marriage, sexual identity, disease and body image. Her style, in contrast to the long tradition of melodrama in Iranian cinema, is rooted in the visual arts and autobiography. Because of the taboo themes frankly discussed in her films and her opposition to censorship, she is considered one of the most controversial filmmakers in Iran.

He has received various accolades, including six Crystal Simorghs–making him the only director to have three wins in Special Jury Prize category–two Hafez Awards, five Iran's Film Critics and Writers Association Awards, a NETPAC Award and an Asian New Talent Award. His sixth film, World War III (2022) won the Orizzonti Award for Best Film at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

Rakhshān Banietemad is an internationally and critically acclaimed Iranian film director and screenwriter who is widely considered a premier female director and her films have been praised at international festivals as well as being popular with Iranian critics and audiences. Her title as "First Lady of Iranian Cinema" is not only a reference to her prominence as a filmmaker, but also connotes her social role of merging politics and family in her work. Her signature style is that she focuses on a character representing a part of society to explore it while staying objectively neutral. The first period of Banietemad's cinematic activity originates from dark humor. Still, in the second period of her work, dark humor gives way to serious and influential films, and deeper and broader issues are addressed. Banietemad has a more realistic view of life.

Bahman Motamedian is an Iranian filmmaker, photographer, writer and script writer. He was born in Tehran, Iran. Motamedian belongs to the so-called "new wave" of Iranian cinema. Bahman Motamedian is also has been involved in over twenty works, including shorts film, documentaries film, video art and theater.
Motamedian made his first feature film, titled "Khastegi" in 2008. "Khastegi" was shown in the official selection of 65th Venice International Film Festival as the "surprise film" in 2008.

He won the Golden Bear at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival for There Is No Evil.

Writing on the City is a 60 minutes documentary film about graffiti in Tehran by Iranian Independent filmmaker Keywan Karimi. The Karimi started working on the documentary in 2012 and completed it in August 2015. It has since been edited several times and has been shown in several film festivals.

Hootan Shakiba is an Iranian actor. He is best known for his role as Habib Naghavi in Bachelors (2016–2019) which earned him a Hafez Award. Shakiba won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor for portraying Abdolhamid Rigi in When the Moon Was Full (2019).
