The competition is organized by the South American Basketball Association (ABASU), which operates as a regional sub-zone of FIBA Americas. Uruguayan Basketball Federation

The Uruguayan Basketball Federation is the governing body of basketball in Uruguay. It was founded in 1915, and is in charge of the senior Uruguayan national basketball team and the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol (LUB).

Angelo Reyes is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player. Reyes was born in New York he has played in the United States American Basketball Association, the Premier Basketball League, the Dominican Republic Liga Nacional de Baloncesto, the Mexico Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional, the Uruguayan Federacion Uruguaya de Basquetbol FUBB, the Australian National Basketball League, and the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Club Atlético Peñarol Basketball is the senior men's basketball section of the multi-sport club Peñarol, which is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. The team played in the Uruguayan Primera División, which was organized by the Uruguayan Basketball Federation, until its dissolution in 1997. The club is currently playing in Uruguay's second tier league.

The Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol is the most important professional club basketball league in Uruguay. It is organized by the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB). Club Atlético Tabaré

Club Atlético Tabaré is a professional basketball club based in Montevideo, Uruguay. The club was founded on July 9, 1931 and joined the FUBB in 1932, earning its promotion to the Second Division in 1934 and its first ascent to First Division in 1948. The club won the Campeonato Uruguayo Federal de Básquetbol federal championship in 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964 and 1968. The club later alternated between the Second and First Division, with its last promotion and title in 2011, returning to decline in the 2013/14 season. It has since played in the Torneo Metropolitano, Uruguay's second division.

Basketball was introduced in Argentina in 1912 by the "Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes" (YMCA), with the first Federation created in 1921 to organise the competitions. In 1929, the Argentine Basketball Federation was established. The body currently controls the Argentina national team.

The 2020 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo 2020, is the 117th season of Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 90th in which it is professional. The season is named as "Néstor "Tito" Gonçalves" and began on 15 February. Nacional are the defending champions, having won the title in the previous season.

Club Trouville is a multi-sport club based in Montevideo, Uruguay. The club is mainly known for its professional basketball section, which plays in the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol, the first level of Uruguayan basketball. Other sports practiced are rugby union and association football.
