The 25th Utah Senate District is located in Cache and Rich Counties and includes Utah House Districts 2, 3, 4, 5, and 53. The current State Senator representing the 25th district is Chris H. Wilson. Wilson was elected to the Utah Senate in 2020 and assumed office on January 1, 2021. His predecessor Lyle W. Hillyard was first elected in 1984.

He served in the legislature from 1981 to 2020, first as a representative from 1981 to 1984, then as a senator from 1985 to 2020.

The 1872 and 1873 United States Senate elections were elections which had the Republican Party, while still retaining a commanding majority, lose two seats in the United States Senate. By the beginning of the Congress, however, they'd lost three more: two as defections to the Liberal Republican Party, and one a resignation of Henry Wilson to become U.S. Vice President. These elections also coincided with President Ulysses S. Grant's easy re-election.
