Arumugam Vengatarakoo is a Malaysian politician and was a member of the State Assembly of Kedah for the seat of Bukit Selambau from 2008 to 2009.

Arumugam was elected in the 2008 election as an independent, but immediately joined the People's Justice Party in the new Pakatan Rakyat coalition government of Kedah. He was appointed to the Executive Council to represent Kedah's Indian community in the state government. [1] However, in February 2009, Arumugam resigned from the Executive Council and the State Assembly, triggering a by-election. [2] [3]

Before entering politics, Arumugam was a member of the Royal Malaysian Air Force. [2]

The 2009 Perak constitutional crisis was a political dispute in Malaysia over the legitimacy of the Perak state government formed in February 2009. It began when three Pakatan Rakyat state legislators defected, causing a collapse of the state government. The Sultan of Perak then refused First Minister Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin's request to dissolve the state assembly and call elections. Instead, the Barisan Nasional (BN), with support from the three defecting assemblymen, formed the new state government.

The Kedah State Executive Council is the executive branch of the State Government of Kedah, Malaysia. The Council is composed of the Menteri Besar, the Leader of the council, appointed by the Sultan on the basis that he/she commands the majority support in the Kedah State Legislative Assembly,. The State Government of Kedah is also assisted by the State Secretary, the State Legal Adviser and the State Financial Officer.

Simon Ooi Tze Min, better known as Simon Ooi, is a Malaysian politician who has twice served as a Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly for Bakar Arang state constituency since May 2013. He is a member of the People’s Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. After Pakatan Harapan won in the 14th General Election, he also served as a Member of the Kedah State Executive Council (EXCO) from May 2018 to May 2020. Currently, he holds several positions in PKR, as a Central Leadership Council Member (MPP), Vice Chairman of Kedah state, and also Chairman of Sungai Petani division.
