V. C. Palanisamy Gounder (died 15 April 1965) was an Indian merchant and politician of the Indian National Congress who served as Minister of Prohibition of the Madras State in the cabinet of C. Rajagopalachari and Minister for Animal Husbandry and Harijan Welfare in K. Kamaraj's cabinet.
A native of Coimbatore,Gounder hailed from a family of wealthy textile merchants. In 1937,Gounder was nominated to the Madras Legislative Council representing cotton-growers of the province. Gounder died on 15 April 1965. [1]

He later served as the Governor of Maharashtra. As the Minister for Food and Agriculture,he ushered the Indian Green Revolution,an era of self-sufficiency in food production along with M. S. Swaminathan,B. Sivaraman and Norman E. Borlaug. He was awarded Bharat Ratna,Indian's highest civilian award,in 1998,for his role in ushering Green Revolution.
Ramaswamy Venkataraman was an Indian lawyer,Indian independence activist and politician who served as a Union Minister and as the eighth president of India. Venkataraman was born in Rajamadam village in Tanjore district,Madras Presidency. He studied law and practised in the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court of India. In his young age,he was an activist of the Indian independence movement and participated in the Quit India Movement. He was appointed as the member of the Constituent Assembly and the provisional cabinet. He was elected to the Lok Sabha four times and served as Union Finance Minister and Defence Minister. In 1984,he was elected as the seventh vice president of India and in 1987,he became the eighth President of India and served from 1987 to 1992. He also served as a State minister under K. Kamaraj and M. Bhaktavatsalam.
Tiruvellore Thattai Krishnamachari was an Indian politician who served as Finance Minister from 1956 to 1958 and from 1964 to 1966. He was also a founding member of the first governing body of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in New Delhi,India's first independent economic policy institute established in 1956.

Minjur Bhakthavatsalam was an Indian independence activist and politician who served as the chief minister of Madras State from 2 October 1963 to 6 March 1967. He was the last Congress chief minister of Tamil Nadu and the last to have taken part in the Indian independence movement.
Tamil Nadu Legislative Council was the upper house of the former bicameral legislature of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It began its existence as Madras Legislative Council,the first provincial legislature for Madras Presidency. It was initially created as an advisory body in 1861,by the British colonial government. It was established by the Indian Councils Act 1861,enacted in the British parliament in the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Its role and strength were later expanded by the second Council Act of 1892. Limited election was introduced in 1909. The Council became a unicameral legislative body in 1921 and eventually the upper chamber of a bicameral legislature in 1937. After India became independent in 1947,it continued to be the upper chamber of the legislature of Madras State,one of the successor states to the Madras Presidency. It was renamed as the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council when the state was renamed as Tamil Nadu in 1969. The Council was abolished by the M. G. Ramachandran administration on 1 November 1986. In 1989,1996 and 2010,the DMK regime headed by M. Karunanidhi tried to revive the Council. The former AIADMK regime (2016-2021) expressed its intention not to revive the council and passed a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in this regard.
Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi or Naganatha Sethupathi was an Indian politician of the Justice Party and later,the Indian National Congress and head of the zamindari of Ramnad or Ramnad kingdom from 1929 to 1967. He was a member of the Madras Legislative Assembly from 1951 to 1967 and served as a minister in C. Rajagopalachari and K. Kamaraj's cabinets. He was popular as the main political opponent of U. Muthuramalingam Thevar.
The first legislative assembly Election to the Madras state based on universal adult suffrage was held in 27 March 1952. This was the first election held in Madras state after the Indian Independence. This election was officially known as the 1951 Madras State Election,even though through delays,actual voting didn't take place until early 1952.
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganisation of Madras State in 1956. Indian National Congress and its leader,K. Kamaraj won the election and defeated their rival,Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954,due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari,for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam,the leadership of Congress was contested between K. Kamaraj,and C. Subramaniam. Eventually,K. Kamaraj,won the support of the party,was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move,he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam,to his cabinet,allowing great unity amongst the Congress that ruled the state of Madras,for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan win their first MLA seats in the legislative assembly.

Kaliyannan Gounder was an Indian politician who served as a member of the Provisional Parliament of India and as a member of the Legislative Assembly MLA,Member of the Legislative Council MLC of Tamil Nadu. He was the last surviving member of the first parliament of India and was one of the few surviving members of the first assembly of Tamil Nadu State .He played a crucial role in the development of Gandhi Ashram at Tiruchengode and in nurturing Gandhian values among the people of Tamil Nadu.
Thottakurichi Muthuswamy Nallaswamy,popularly known as T.M.N,was an Indian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. Balasubramanian Parameswaran was an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Maduranthakam constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate in 1946,1952,and 1962 elections. He was the grandson of Rettamalai Srinivasan,a pioneer in the Scheduled Caste movement. He was educated at the St. Gabriels High School and Presidency College,Madras. He served as private secretary to another Scheduled Caste leader M. C. Rajah. During 7 April 1949 –9 April 1952,he was the minister for Firka development,Khadi,Cottage industries,Fisheries,Cinchona and Harijan uplift in the P. S. Kumaraswamy Raja cabinet. During 1952–54,he was the mayor of Madras. From 13 April 1954 until 31 March 1957,he was the minister for Transport,Harijan Uplift,Hindu Religious Endowments,Registration and Prohibition in K. Kamaraj's first cabinet. During 1958–62,he was a member of the Rajya Sabha –the upper house of the Indian parliament.
The first legislative council election for the Madras Presidency after the establishment of a bicameral legislature by the Government of India Act of 1935 was held in February 1937. The Indian National Congress obtained a majority by winning 27 out of 46 seats in the Legislative Council for which the elections were held. This was the first electoral victory for the Congress in the presidency since elections were first conducted for the Council in 1920 and C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) became the Chief Minister. The Justice Party which had ruled the presidency for most of the previous 17 years was voted out of power. Congress also won the Legislative assembly election held simultaneously.
C. Rajagopalachari was a Chief Minister of erstwhile Madras Presidency and Madras State of Independent India. He was the first Indian National Congress member to assume office in Madras Presidency. He served as a Chief Minister for two terms spanning about five years. He was elected as a Chief Minister after 1937 elections in Madras Presidency and served till 1939. He was also the Chief Minister of Madras State after first elections held after Indian independence. His second term lasted from 1952 till 1954.
N. V. Natarajan was an Indian politician of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was a founding member of the DMK. He served as the Minister of Labour and Backward Classes in the Tamil Nadu government during 1969-75.
