The VCU Rams women's basketball team is the intercollegiate women's basketball program that represents Virginia Commonwealth University. The Rams play in the Atlantic 10 Conference. [2]

History

VCU began play in 1974. They have made the NCAA Tournament twice (2009 and 2021), while making the WNIT six times (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2019). They joined the CAA in 1995, playing until 2012, when they joined the Atlantic 10 Conference. [3]

The most successful teams have been the men's tennis and basketball teams, which have had success in their conference and on the regional and national stages. The school's colors are black and gold. The athletic director is Ed McLaughlin. The official student supporter group is known as the Rowdy Rams.

The VCU Rams men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball team that represents Virginia Commonwealth University. The Rams joined the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2012–13 season after previously competing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In 2017, VCU was ranked the 40th most valuable men's basketball program in the country by The Wall Street Journal. With a valuation of $56.9 million, VCU ranked second in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and second in the A-10 Conference. The team is coached by Mike Rhoades.

The VCU Rams men's tennis team represents Virginia Commonwealth University. Under Coach Paul Kostin’s direction, VCU has reached the NCAA tournament in 18 of the past 19 years and finished a season ranked among the top 25 Division I teams a total of 12 times.

2011–12 VCU Rams mens basketball team American college basketball season

The 2011–12 VCU Rams men's basketball team represented Virginia Commonwealth University during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was the 44th season of the University fielding a men's basketball program. Led by third-year head coach Shaka Smart, the Rams were coming off a season marked by a run to the Final Four. Expected to finish lower in the CAA regular season standings, the Rams finished as regular season runners-up with a 15–3 conference record, before winning the 2012 CAA Men's Basketball Championship against Drexel, 59–56, earning their 11th ever berth into the NCAA Tournament. It was also the first season since 1984–85 that the Rams consecutively qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

1968–69 VCU Rams mens basketball team American college basketball season

The 1968–69 VCU Rams men's basketball team represented the newly created Virginia Commonwealth University during the 1968–69 NCAA men's basketball season. Led by Benny Dees, the Rams played their inaugural season as an independent team, playing a mix of Division I, II and III schools across the Mid-Atlantic, Ohio River Valley and Southeast regions. After an 0–4 start, the Rams finished the season with a winning record of 12–11. During the season, they played in two winter tournaments; the Fort Eustis and Quantico tournaments held at Virginia military bases, Joint Base Langley–Eustis and Marine Corps Base Quantico. The team did not earn a berth into either the NCAA or NIT tournaments.

The 2012 VCU Rams men's soccer team was the 33rd season of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia fielding a men's varsity college soccer program. It was the 48th season of the University fielding a men's basketball program. The program was led by Will Wade, who was leading the program for his first season after previously coaching Chattanooga. Wade replaced former head coach, Shaka Smart, who resigned from VCU for the vacancy at Texas.

They advanced to the semifinals of the A-10 Women's Tournament where they lost to George Washington. They finished the season 16–15, 8–8 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the A-10 Women's Tournament where they lost to Dayton.

Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 25-8, 16-2 in A-10 Play to finish in 1st place. In the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament, they were upset by Rhode Island. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they lost in the First Round to UCF.

The Rams were led by fifth year head coach Beth O'Boyle. The Rams were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference and play their home games at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. They finished the season 24–10, 13–3 in A-10 play to share the regular season title with Fordham. They advanced to the championship game of the A-10 Women's Tournament where they lost to Fordham. They received an automatic bid to the WNIT where they defeated Charlotte in the first round before losing to Virginia Tech in the second round.

The Rams were by Mike Rhoades in his third season as head coach at VCU. The Rams played their home games at Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10).

2020–21 VCU Rams mens basketball team American college basketball season

The 2020–21 VCU Rams men's basketball team represented Virginia Commonwealth University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Mike Rhoades, in his fourth year as VCU head coach. The team played their home games at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia, as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they finished the season 19–7, 10–4 in A-10 play to finish in second place. The Rams defeated Dayton and Davidson in the A-10 Tournament before losing to St. Bonaventure in the championship. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 10 seed in the West region. Their game against Oregon in the First Round was ruled a no contest due to positive COVID-19 tests in the VCU program, thus ending their season.

It is the program's 47th season of existence, and their eighth season in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
