VConnect (a product of Mplify Limited) was an online marketplace that helped users hire local professionals for service needs. There were over 100 services listed on Vconnect which ranged from repairs and maintenance, home and office improvement, events and entertainment, personal services, business services and logistics. Vconnect offered services for Nigeria and Ghana. [1]

History

In 2010, after his inability to find Nigerian local businesses online, Deepankar began to assemble a team that would help collect local SMEs information that can be accessed via a Google-esque local search engine. [2]

He along with his co-founder, Anand Chander Mohan launched Vconnect.com on 8 March 2011. Vconnect was a part of Tolaram Group, which is headquartered in Singapore. [3]

Market by Vconnect

On June 23, 2018, Vconnect officially launched Market by Vconnect, a service marketplace where business owners can find and connect with customers. With this, business owners could find and shop for customers with an option to pay for one customer or pay for a package plan. In conjunction, Vconnect also introduced Take a Pledge, a system to verify the identity of all businesses registered on Vconnect. [4]

It offers a third-party online marketplace, as well as first-party direct retail spanning various categories including consumer electronics, fashion, home appliances, books, children's items, computers & accessories, phones and tablets, health care, and personal care products. The company also has a logistics service (EXPRESS), which enables the timely shipment and delivery of packages to customers.

Jumia is a Pan-African technology company that is built around a marketplace, logistics service and payment service. The logistics service enables the delivery of packages through a network of local partners while the payment services facilitate the payments of online transactions within Jumia’s ecosystem. It has partnered with more than 100,000 active sellers and individuals and it competes at various levels, indirectly with retailers such as Jiji and Maybrands limited, and is a direct competitor to Konga in Nigeria, and Amazon and Noon in Egypt.

Lendico was a multinational company, operating a peer-to-peer lending platform. It was taken over by Dutch bank ING Groep in early 2018 and now operates as a subsidiary. The international online marketplace for business and consumer lending was founded in December 2013 by the incubator and venture capitalist, Rocket Internet. After launching in Germany, the company expanded into Spain, Poland, Austria, South Africa, the Netherlands and Brazil. Using the crowdfunding model, the company based in Berlin, Germany, directly connects investors and private and business borrowers. Lendico is led by Friedrich Hubel and co-founder Clemens Paschke.
