Vadodara Innovation Council (VIC) is the first city-based Innovation Council in India, associated with the National Innovation Council. Vadodara Innovation Council started functioning in May-2011 under the leadership of technocrat Dr. Madhu Mehta. [1] VIC, a non-profit company, has the stated goal "To build Innovative, Curious and Questioning Society in Vadodara region".

Vadodara as an Innovative city

On 16 June 2013, Sam Pitroda has launched the vision and initiative to make 'Vadodara as an Innovative city', the first-of-its-kind in India. [2]

Tod Fod Jod Centre

It has started 'Tod Fod Jod Centre' (TFJC) for school students, being the second such initiative in India after Delhi. IT is a unique initiative, where students open the device, understand the different parts, its working principles, scientific & engineering concepts behind it and then assemble it. In its first phase, the students experimented with a ceiling fan, computer, clock, bicycle and telephone. [3] [4] [5]

Innovation partner to VCCI Expo 2014

Vadodara Chamber of Commerce Industry (VCCI) has partnered with VIC for VCCI Expo 2014 (27 November 2014 – 1 December 2014), where 56 participants showcased their innovation or prototypes. [6]

InnoQuest - Digital

It has partnered with DDKF Mumbai to start sessions on digital learning.

Recognitions

As a result of its hosting an innovation workshop for 10,000 school students in the short span of 8 months, it received commendable recognition at national level[ citation needed ]. The model is to be replicated in 1,000 cities of India. [7] [8] In its first phase 31 schools including 11 municipal (government) schools were covered.

The railway line and National Highway 8, which connect Delhi with Mumbai, pass through Vadodara. The city is named for its abundance of the Banyan (Vad) tree. Vadodara is also locally referred to as the Sanskari Nagari and Kala Nagari of India.

The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, formerly Baroda College, is a public university in the city of Vadodara, in Gujarat state, India. Originally established as a college in 1881, it became a university in 1949 after the independence of the country. It was later renamed after its benefactor Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the former ruler of Baroda State.

Sam Pitroda

Satyan "Sam" Pitroda (born 4th May 1942) is an Indian telecommunication engineer, inventor and entrepreneur. He was born in Titlagarh in the eastern Indian state of Odisha to a Gujarati family. He is popularly known as the Father of India's Computer and IT Revolution as he helped Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in bringing computerization as an advisor to the PM. He was also an advisor to the PM during Dr. Manmohan Singh's tenure.

Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) is a registered Public Trust and Charitable Society, which started its activities in 1993 under the guidance of Sam Pitroda and Anant Darshan Shankar. The Indian Ministry of Science & Technology recognizes FRLHT as a scientific and research organization. The Mitra personal mover is an Indian battery-operated mobility device. The vehicle is capable of carrying a single person and aimed to be useful particularly in airport corridors, institutional campuses and in speciality buildings such as hospitals where low noise pollution is required. The vehicle is twin motor based and works on unique hybrid steering mechanism developed by inventors Rishabh Sinha and Subhav Sinha.

SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce is a Mumbai-based college located in Sion. Established by the South Indian Education Society, the college schools students from class 11 and 12 right up to advanced degrees and has research facilities and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. National Innovation Council is the think-tank council of India to discuss, analyse and help implement strategies for innovation in India and suggest a Roadmap for Innovation 2010-2020. It is currently headed by no one as its incumbent chairman Sam Pitroda has resigned. It has approved Vadodara Innovation Council as its first city-based innovation council in India.

NITI Aayog Indian government think tank

Priyank M. Kharge is an Indian politician representing the Indian National Congress.He is currently serving as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Chittapur Assembly Constituency in Kalaburagi District of Karnataka for the second time. In 2016, at the age 38, he became the youngest minister to be sworn in to the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s cabinet as the Minister of IT, BT & Tourism. He has also served as a Cabinet Minister of Social Welfare in the coalition Government headed by H D Kumaraswamy.

BETiC

BETIC based at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is an inter-disciplinary multi-institution initiative for medical device innovation. Established in 2014 with support from the government of Maharashtra, it comprises a network of 14 engineering and medical institutes across the state. The BETIC team have developed 50 medical devices as of 2019, and licensed 20 of them to startup companies or industry for mass production.
