Vaikunta Baliga College of Law (Formerly called as the Udupi Law College) was established in the year 1957 by late Dr.T.M.A.Pai. [1] The college was named after Late Sri B.Vaikunta Baliga, a legal luminary and then minister of Law, Government of Mysore. [2] It is affiliated to Karnataka State Law University.

Bantwal Vaikunta Baliga (1895–1968) was a Konkani lawyer who played an active role in Indian governance and politics. He was actively involved in India’s struggle for freedom and worked several times with Mahatma Gandhi. He was elected as MLA and subsequently became the Law Minister and Speaker of the Mysore State Assembly. His term as Speaker spanned from March 1962 to June 1968. He is remembered for his parliamentary acumen, knowledge of legislative business, and understanding of parliamentary procedure. As the Speaker he was known to be very strict in conducting the House proceedings.

Ram Krishna Baliga was an engineer and chairman. He is regarded as the father of the Electronics City in Bangalore, India, as he founded and established the Electronic City.

Later Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as Union Minister of State for Rural Development from 1987 to 1989. Shree Rajiv Gandhi also appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as General Secretary of All India Congress Committee in 1990 as well as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 1990. He continued to be General Secretary of All India Congress Committee during the tenure of Prime Minister Shree P. V. Narasimha Rao up to 1996. After Shree Rajiv Gandhi his wife All India Congress Committee President & United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi also appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 2003 for the second time. He continued as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee up to 2005.
