Valentin Samungi (born 27 January 1942) is a retired Romanian handball player. He won the world title in 1970 and an Olympic bronze medal in 1972. [1] [2]

Samungi started playing handball in 1958, as a goalkeeper for CSS Bucharest. Between 1966 and 1977 he competed as a defender for Dinamo Bucharest. He was a member of the national team in 1961–1973 and played 113 matches scoring 134 goals. Samungi ended his playing career as captain of the first league team "Știința" later "Universitatea" Bucharest, his nickname was "The Satrap". In 1977 he retired from competition to coach the national junior (1977–1985) and senior teams (1989–1991). In 1991 he became advisor for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and in 1995–1996 served as chairman of the Romanian Handball Federation (RHF). In 1996 he was appointed vice president of Dinamo Bucharest, and between 1999 and 2000 acted as secretary general of the RHF. [2]

Cornel Durău is a retired Romanian handball player. Between 1976 and 1990 he played 200 games for the national team and scored 435 goals. He competed at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and a three world championships, and won three bronze medals. At the club level he played for Dinamo Bucharest, Hidrotehnica Constanța and CB Torrevieja before finishing his career in Germany.

Marian Dumitru is a retired Romanian handball player. Between 1980 and 1996 he played 231 matches for the national team and scored 754 goals. He competed at the 1980, 1984 and 1992 Olympics and 1982, 1986 and 1990 world championships and won bronze medals in 1980, 1984 and 1990. At the club level he played for Steaua Bucharest, winning 11 national championships and reaching the EHF Champions League final in 1989. The same year, he signed for TEKA Santander in Spain, where he won the EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 1990. He then went to play in the Bundesliga for TSV Bayer Dormagen. In the 1993–94 season, he won the EHF Cup with Alzira Avidesa.

Cezar Drăgăniță is a retired Romanian handball player. He won the world title in 1974 and two Olympic medals in 1976 and 1980. At the club level he spent most of his career with Steaua Bucharest, winning with them 15 national titles; he also participated in seven tournaments of the EHF Champions League, winning one in 1977. Near the end of his career he played and coached in Belgium and Portugal.

Between 1966 and 1976 he capped 197 times for the national team and scored 328 goals, winning world titles in 1970 and 1974 and Olympic medals in 1972 and 1976. Domestically he played his entire career from 1964 to 1980 for Dinamo Bucuresti, winning the national titles in 1965, 1966 and 1978 and the Romanian Cup in 1979. After retiring from competitions Licu became a handball coach. In 1980–1993 he worked with Dinamo Bucuresti in Romania, and in 1995–2006 with SC Magdeburg in Germany, first with the junior and then with the senior team, leading them to the German national title in 2001 and the EHF Champions League victory in 2002. His son Robert also became an Olympic handball player and coach.
