In 1861 the Llynvi Valley Railway was opened in Glamorganshire, Wales, to convey mineral products to the Bristol Channel at Porthcawl. It adopted an earlier tramroad, the Duffryn Llynvi and Porthcawl Railway. The Llynvi and Ogmore Railway was opened in 1865, and the two companies amalgamated to form the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway in 1866. At first Porthcawl harbour was an important destination for onward transport, but this soon declined.

Ogmore Comprehensive School was a co-educational secondary school situated approximately 1.2 miles from the M4 Junction 36, Bridgend, Wales. It had a population of approximately 710 pupils aged 11–18 in its last year of full service, which made it the smallest secondary state school in Bridgend. The school was mainly recognised throughout South Wales for its commitments to the environment. In 2011, the school ceased to be after merging with local neighbouring school Ynysawdre Comprehensive School after over 100 years of service to the local catchment areas in its two different guises.

The name Ynysawdre is also usually used for a small section of Tondu. At the 2001 census, the population of the community was 3,698, reducing to 3,367 at the 2011 Census.
St Bride's Minor is a community in Bridgend County Borough, south Wales. Located north of Bridgend town it is made up of Sarn, a large housing estate, and the villages of Bryncethin and Abergarw. The southern border of the community is defined by the M4 motorway, though the community stretches briefly beyond the Motorway to take in the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. The eastern, and largest area of the community consists of farmland and small scattered farm houses. At the 2001 census, the community's population was 5,575, increasing to 6,014 at the 2011 Census.
