Vallivana is a small settlement belonging to Morella, Ports (comarca).

Morella is an ancient walled city located on a hill-top in the province of Castellón, Valencian Community, Spain. The town is the capital and administrative centre of the comarca of Els Ports, in the historic Maestrat (Maestrazgo) region.

Description

Vallivana is an almost deserted cluster of houses 24 kilometres (15 mi) southeast of Morella. It is located at the eastern end of the Dena de Coll i Moll, right by N-232 road between Vinaròs and Morella.

N-232 road (Spain)

The N-232 is a highway in Spain. It broadly follows the Rio Ebro from Logroño to the coast. It starts south east of Logroño at the Autovía LO-20 and runs parallel to the Autopista AP-68. The road passes Calahorra before it junctions with the N-113, N-121 and Autovía A-15.

Vinaròs Municipality in Valencian Community, Spain

Vinaròs is a city located in eastern Spain and the capital of the Baix Maestrat. It's in the province of Castellón, so it's part of the Valencian Community. Vinaròs is a fishing harbour and tourist destination.

In 1672, during a severe plague epidemic, the citizens of Morella brought the statue of the Virgin Mary from the Sanctuary of Vallivana, and carried it in a procession through the streets of the town. The plague disappeared from the city never to return.

To commemorate this event every six years the Sexenni de Morella festival takes place in the town for nine days in late August. The virgin is carried in procession and the traditional town guilds perform ancient dances in her honour. The festivities in 2006 were the first of the 21st century. [1]

Guild association of artisans or merchants

A guild is an association of artisans or merchants who oversee the practice of their craft/trade in a particular area. The earliest types of guild formed as a confraternities of tradesmen. They were organized in a manner something between a professional association, a trade union, a cartel, and a secret society. They often depended on grants of letters patent from a monarch or other authority to enforce the flow of trade to their self-employed members, and to retain ownership of tools and the supply of materials. A lasting legacy of traditional guilds are the guildhalls constructed and used as guild meeting-places. Guild members found guilty of cheating on the public would be fined or banned from the guild.

This small place gives its name to the Serra de Vallivana, a mountain range that rises over Vallivana. This area has the most important forested zone of the region. The rockier and less forested Serra de l'Espadella rises to the northeast, on the other side of the valley through which the road passes.

Serra de Vallivana or Muntanyes de Vallivana is an over 14 km (9 mi) long mountain range straddling the Alt Maestrat and Baix Maestrat comarcas, Valencian Community, Spain.

Serra de lEspadella

Serra de l'Espadella is an over 4 km (2 mi) long mountain range in the Baix Maestrat comarca, Valencian Community, Spain. Its highest point is Espadella. These mountains are frequently covered in snow in the winter.

There is also a restaurant and a forestry department office. Most of the remaining dwellings lie abandoned.

This place is not to be confused with Vallibona, a small town in the same area further north over the Serra del Turmell mountain range.

Vallibona Municipality in Valencian Community, Spain

Vallibona is a small town and municipality located in the Ports comarca, province of Castelló, part of the autonomous community of Valencia, Spain. According to the 2009 census, it has a total population of 90 inhabitants. It is located in the upper valley of the Cérvol River, between the Serra del Turmell and the Ports de Beseit mountain ranges, in a very lonely area, relatively far from other towns. Vallibona is part of the Taula del Sénia free association of municipalities.
