Vamanapuram River is an 88 km (55 mi) long river in southern Kerala that flows through the northern parts of Thiruvananthapuram district. It is also the longest river in Thiruvananthapuram district. The river is also known as "Kollampuzhayaru" and "Attingalaru".The two tributaries of this river are the Upper Chittar & Manjaprayaar streams which originates near Ponmudi hill station.
Sardar Vedaratnam Pillai was an Indian freedom-fighter, a leader of the Indian National Congress and a famous philanthropist who served as an MLA for three terms over a period of 14 years. He is known for his heroic contributions in the salt march of Vedaranyam in 1930, alongside C. Rajagopalachari.
The National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum (NHHM) commonly known as National Crafts Museum in New Delhi is one of the largest crafts museums in India. It is run by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The museum is situated on the corner of the Pragati Maidan, facing the Purana Qila complex. In 2015, the Government of India announced that a Hastkala (handicrafts) Academy would be established in the museum premises, converting some galleries into classrooms. Initial renovations destroyed one of the museum's most well-known artifacts, a room of murals painted by Madhubani artist Ganga Devi, leading to widespread criticism. As of 2019, renovations are still ongoing.
The State Highway 59 (SH-59) is the longest state highway in Kerala. The proposed highway extends from Nandarapadavu in Kasaragod district to Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram district, will have a length of 1332.16 km and will pass through 13 of the 14 districts, the exception being Alappuzha as that district is not part of the hilly ranges of Kerala. The expected outlay for the project is Rs.1,500 crore.
Anees Salim is an Indian author known for his books like Vanity Bagh, The Blind Lady's Descendants and the Small Town Sea. He is from the town of Varkala, and now lives in Kochi, Kerala. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for The Blind Lady's Descendants in 2018, becoming only the fourth Malayalee in history to win the award for an English work. Some of his columns have appeared in newspaper The Indian Express.
Suresh K. Nair is an artist based in Banaras. Nair obtained his national diploma in mural painting from the Institute of Mural Painting Guruvayur, Kerala under the guidance of Mammiyur Krishnan Kuty Nair. He was inspired by the works of Rabiindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee and Ramkinker Baij and continued his studies at the Department of Painting, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Nair has acquired a presence in the Indian and international art scene over the last decade with several shows organized by regional and international galleries and museums, and created many murals in India and abroad. His early works are based on Kerala murals, both in terms of technique and ideas. One of his modern paintings, ‘Cosmic Butterfly" is owned by Essl Museum, Vienna, Austria since 2010. His works were exhibited in the US, Spain, and Canada, and his awards include the Elizabath Green Shield Foundation Scholarship (1999) of Canada; Fulbright Fellowship ( 2006–07) for an Educational Exchange Program at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia under Professor Nicholas Kripal; and the State Award of Kerala Lalithkala Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of Kerala.
Pannuru Sripathi in a small village near Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh, India, is a traditional painter who won the Padma Shri Award in 2007. Sripathi obtained a diploma in Drawing in 1969. Sripathi has served the traditional craft by training more than 1000 younger generations and art lovers in India and abroad. Sripathi represented India in Japan, Russia, USA, Singapore, Austria, and Germany for festival of India.
Sarah Jacob Cohen was the oldest living member of Kochi’s Jewish community, visited by The British royal family at Mattancherry, Kochi in November 2013. She was a prominent member of the Jewish Community that arrived in Mattancherry, Kochi, in the south Indian state of Kerala, over 500 years ago, from Europe, who was dedicated to keeping alive simple Jewish traditions like the humble kippah making in a far flung Jewish outpost. Cohen had a number of relatives living in Sydney, Australia, including her brother Julian Cohen. She died on August 30, 2019 at the age of 96.

The origins of the Free software community in Thiruvananthapuram can be traced back to the group of TeX users around the University of Kerala in early 1980s. The community then later named themselves Thiruvananthapuram LUG, GNU/Linux Users Group, Thiruvananthapuram and then ultimately Free Software Users Group, Thiruvananthapuram. The community has worked with the government in helping with key Free software initiatives in the government and also in promoting and supporting Free software among the general public.
