Vaughan King (born 5 October 1982) is an English singer-songwriter for the bands NED and Dirt Diggers. [1] He resides in the borough of Camden, London.

Career

In late 2007, King formed Vaughan King and His Riff Raff, but he dissolved the band after shifting toward a more blues-inspired sound.[ citation needed ] King's style has been described as "thought-provoking" [2] and noted for featuring "an interesting and clever array of instruments." In a 2009 blog post, [3] King announced plans for a follow-up to his debut album, The Triumphant, with a hoped-for release by the end of the year. In 2010, he released an EP entitled Ballad of a Poor Man with an animated video. [4] In early 2011, it was announced that his new band would be known as Dirt Diggers and that they would be releasing downloads and demos throughout the year. [5]

The Triumphant

King's debut album, The Triumphant, received positive reviews. Kerrang! magazine awarded it 4 out of 5 stars and compared it to Jeff Buckley. [6] Reviews included a description of The Triumphant as "being one of this year's best-kept secrets," [7] while Rock Sound magazine depicted King as "as beautiful, deep, and dangerous as a frosty river on a moonlit winter's night." [8] R2 (Rock'n'Reel) also awarded the album 4 out of 5 stars, with one review describing The Triumphant as "Perfect and Beautiful... a decadent piece of work." [9]

The first single from the album was "The Forgiven and the Forgotten", accompanied by a remix by Bigo & Twigetti and a live video shot at Camden's Barfly.

The second single, "This Empty Landfill", features cover artwork depicting Vaughan King as the Russian monk Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin. The B-side is an HWH's remix of the album track "Two Souls". The single received praise, with Subba Cultcha describing it as a "stirring, soulfully constructed mix of Nick Drake's despair and Damien Rice's melodic bite." [10]

The final release from The Triumphant was a double A-side featuring "Two Souls" and the bonus track "End to End", released on 22 June 2009, coinciding with the deluxe release of the full album on 6 July 2009.[ citation needed ]

King was featured and interviewed on BBC Radio's The Steve Scruton Show on 13 August 2008.[ citation needed ]
