Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach Volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is Sitting Volleyball.

Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach and broadcast announcer. In the 1980s he was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player to have won Olympic gold medals in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. He played college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins, where his teams won three national championships under head coach Al Scates.

The Philippine Super Liga is a non-professional corporate club women's volleyball league in the Philippines. It was first organized by SportsCore Event Management and Consultancy, Inc. and is now owned by Philippine SuperLiga, Inc. The league is envisioned to provide former collegiate players a league with which they can continue with their volleyball career.

Melissa Humana-Paredes is a female Canadian beach volleyball player, who is partnered with Sarah Pavan. She plays as a left-side defender. The pair won the women's gold medal at the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships.
Sarah Lindsey Pavan is a Canadian beach volleyball and former indoor volleyball player. She was part of the Canada women's national volleyball team at the 2010 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan. With Melissa Humana-Paredes she won the women's gold medal at the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships.
The United States national beach volleyball team participates in international beach volleyball competitions and is governed by USA Volleyball.
The women's beach volleyball tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, will take place at the Shiokaze Park. The competition will be held from 24 July to 6 August 2021. It was originally scheduled to take place from 25 July to 8 August 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee announced on 24 March 2020 that the 2020 Summer Olympics would be delayed to 2021. Twenty four teams with 48 athletes around the world compete for the gold medal.
Kathy Gregory is an American retired volleyball coach. Upon her retirement as the University of California, Santa Barbara's only women's volleyball head coach, after 38 seasons she amassed 882 wins, the fifth most in NCAA Division I history. As a player, Gregory represented the United States at the 1970 World Games and the 1971 Pan American Games and she was also the captain of the professional San Diego Breakers. In 1989, Gregory was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.
Gail Castro is an American beach volleyball player. Between 1982 and 1990 she played 190 tournaments. After finishing second in the American trials with partner Deb Richardson, they competed in the women's tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 1997 she played her 11th WPVA tour. She has also played with Gayle Stammer.
