The Venezuela International Book Fair (FILVEN in Spanish) is a national event organized as an initiative of the Venezuelan state since 2005 in various regions to promote reading culture and promote encounter between book readers and writers. [1] The first editions of FILVEN were held only in Caracas, which followed the tradition of previous book fairs in Caracas dating from 1992. Years later, the fair began performing in various cities within the framework exhibition, on dates that did not necessarily coincide, during the same year. Regardless of the location and date, each regional fair retains the same name, slogan, edition number, year, honorees and image.
The first International Book Fair Venezuela, held now under this name, was held in Caracas for 10 days, from November 11 to 20, 2005. Representatives from 30 Latin American countries and over 60 international guests attended. The theme was "The Caribbean, a bridge of books, a sea of humanity". [2]
The second International Book Fair was held in Caracas, Venezuela from November 9 to 19, 2006, an occasion on which tribute was paid to Cuba as a guest country. The Venezuelan poets Ramón Palomares, Mention National Poetry Prize for Literature 1974 and Victor Valera Mora, International Poetry Prize 2006 were also honored. The fair had 103 exhibition booths from Venezuelan publishers and 43 international publishers, and was visited by more than 80 renowned intellectuals. [3]
The third International Book Fair Venezuela was conducted between October 3 and November 18, 2007 in 335 municipalities in all states of Venezuela, organized into chapters. The overall theme of the event was "the book release" and the topic of discussion was titled "America: A possible revolution", [4] having Argentina as a guest country of honor. This year, publishers from 11 countries were linked in the "Network in Defense of Humanity" in order to contribute to the formation of emancipatory, critical and popular thought. [5]
The fourth International Book Fair Venezuela took place across the country between November 7 and 16, 2008, with Ecuador as a guest of honor and Venezuelan's Stefania Mosca as an honored writer. [6] The central theme of the event was "For a nation of readers" with more than 400 writers from 20 countries. [7]
The fifth International Book Fair Venezuela took place in Caracas between November 12 and 21, 2009, with Bolivia as a guest of honor and Venezuelan José Manuel Briceño Guerrero as an honored writer. In this year there were 200 publishers and 50 international guests gave lectures and presented books, among other activities.[ citation needed ]
The sixth International Book Fair Venezuela was held in Caracas between November 13 and 22, 201. This year honored the Latin American countries celebrating their bicentennial of independence that year: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela. The motto of this year was "The people of the Great Homeland write their history" [8]
The seventh International Book Fair Venezuela was held between March 19 and 27, 2011 in Caracas. This date was changed to avoid the rainy season. Its honored authors were Andrés Bello and Juan Germán Roscio, The theme for this year was "Glory to the fierce town" and was attended by 21 international publishers and 103 national publishers.[ citation needed ]
The eighth International Book Fair Venezuela was conducted between May 10 and July 29, 2012 throughout the country.[ citation needed ] The guest country of honor was Uruguay and the honored author was Luis Britto García. This year some 245 national and international publishers were represented. [9]
The ninth International Book Fair Venezuela was conducted between April 24 and November 30, 2013 throughout the country [10]
The tenth International Book Fair Venezuela was held between March 14 and 23, 2014 in Caracas. The guest country of honor was Brazil and the honored writer was César Chirinos. The theme of this edition was "Prospects and challenges of publication in Latin America." There were113 exhibitors that were represented nationally and 29 international exhibitors. [11]

She was a Fellow at the Panamanian Academy of Letters and Associate Fellow at the Spanish Royal Academy, the Colombian and the Nicaraguan Academy of Letters
Havana’s International Book Fair is an annual public festival to promote Cuban government sanctioned books and writing that spans between February and March. The festival begins in Havana at the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, an 18th-century Spanish construction, and spreads east and west of the capital to all provinces and many municipalities. The book fair ends in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba. The fair first took place in 1982, and occurred every two years until 2000 when it became an annual tradition. The festival consists of book vendors, poetry readings, children’s activities, art exhibitions, and concerts in the evenings. It is considered Cuba’s premier cultural event, as well as the event with the highest attendance in Havana. The 18th annual International Book Fair in 2009 had approximately 600,000 visitors.
The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize is a literary prize awarded to a book written in Spanish by a female author. It is organized by the Guadalajara International Book Fair, based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Current winners of the prize receive USD$10,000.
Ediciones Ekare is a Venezuelan based children's book Publisher. Ekaré began in 1978 in Caracas, Venezuela and its initial goal was to publish books which reflected the Venezuelan and Latin American culture and landscape. This was directly related to the experience in public and school libraries of the Banco del Libro, a non-profit organization which promotes reading and books. The catalog includes original works as well as translations of publications in other languages.

The Guadalajara International Book Fair, better known as the FIL is the largest book fair in the Americas, and second-largest book fair in the world after Frankfurt's. It is also considered the most important cultural annual event of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world. The purpose of the FIL is to provide an optimal business environment for the book-industry professionals and exhibitors who attend the fair, and for the reading public eager to meet authors and pick up the latest entries in the market.
Eva Golinger is an American lawyer, writer and journalist. She practices law in New York and specializes in immigration and international law. She is the author of several books about the late Hugo Chávez, of whom she was an outspoken supporter, and his relationship with the US. Chávez called her La novia de Venezuela, and she served as a foreign policy advisor to his government. The National Catholic Reporter wrote that Golinger headed the "pro-Chávez" Venezuela Solidarity Committee in 2004. Her website, venezuelafoia.info, aimed to shed light on what she called links between US government agencies and Venezuelan organizations by publishing documents obtained using the US Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Corferias is a convention center located in the city of Bogotá Colombia, between Quinta Paredes and El Recuerdo neighborhoods. It is a venue of local, national and international events. Although it was originally created only as a fair space it has also served as an important place for social activities including voting and it is used by companies and individuals for cultural events.
Luis Britto García is a Venezuelan writer, playwright and essayist. His fiction has been recognised twice with the Casa de Las Américas Prize, for his works Rajatabla (1970) and Abrapalabra (1979). In 2002, he was the winner of Venezuela's National Prize for Literature, given as a lifetime achievement award. In 2005 he was recognized with the Ezequiel Martínez Estrada honorary award of Casa de Las Américas. In May 2012, he was appointed by President Hugo Chávez to the Venezuelan Council of State, "the highest circle of advisers to the president" provided for in the Venezuelan Constitution.
Carlos J. Tirado Yepes, is a Venezuelan artist, painter and sculptor who has developed a very personal and precise work line linked to Neo-pop art. With plenty of personal art exhibitions, Tirado Yepes has participated in numerous collective exhibitions, receiving different awards like III Premio de Escultura del Certamen Aires de Córdoba in 2004 and other recognitions, among them, in the Venezuelan Embassy in DC (2005), and the X Latin Art Festival of Atlanta (2005).
Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez is a Venezuelan writer. From an early age, he and his family moved to Caracas, where he lived in the popular area of Los Jardines del Valle, but always kept a close connection with his native hometown. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Central University of Venezuela with a thesis on poetry groups "Traffic" and "Guaire". Later, he earned a Ph.D. in Hispanic American Literature from the University of Salamanca with a thesis on the Venezuelan writer José Balza.

Keila Vall de la Ville is a Venezuelan author living in the United States. She is the author the 2016 novel Los días animales (2016) which received the International Latino Book Awards for Best Novel in 2018 and has been translated into English as The Animal Days (2021). Vall de la Ville's 2007 short story collection Ana no duerme (2007) was finalist in Venezuela's Concurso Nacional de Autores Inéditos. She has published the poetry book Viaje legado (2016), the short story collection Ana no duerme y otros cuentos (2016) and has edited the forthcoming anthology Between the Breath and the Abyss: Poetics on Beauty, a compilation of essays and poems by thirty-three contemporary poets on the subject of Beauty. Her fiction and non-fiction work is included in several anthologies. She collaborates with El Nacional's Papel Literario del Diario El Nacional, Viceversa Magazine and Prodavinci, among other digital media.

The International Book Fair of Bogotá, also known as FILBo, is a book fair held in the city of Bogotá, Colombia that takes place annually in the convention center of Corferias. In this event, all the actors of the productive chain of books meet, and for two weeks readers, authors, editors, style editors, distributors, agents, and booksellers participate in this Colombian longstanding cultural event and the second-largest book fair in Latin America.
