Vicente de Paula Neto (born 10 September 1979) more commonly known simply as Vicente, is a retired Brazilian football striker who spent most of his career in China.
Vicente would play his early career in Brazil where he would predominantly play for lower league side AA Flamengo in the Campeonato Paulista Série A3 division. He was also then loaned out to another regional lower league side Caxias FC where he played for one season in the Campeonato Catarinense Second Level. [1]
Vicente would move to China to join the second-tier football club Wuhan Guanggu in the 2004 league season where he had a successful period with them when he won the Chinese Football Association Jia League title and helped them win promotion. [2] The following season would see Vicente continue his successful time with Wuhan when he won the Chinese Super League cup in 2005 to add further silverware with the team. His performances with Wuhan would attract the interests of Inter Shanghai who he would join for the 2006 league season, however after only one season he would return to Wuhan. This time at the club he would not become as an integral member within the team and returned to Inter Shanghai who had changed its name to Shaanxi Chan-Ba. In March 2010, Vicente who had previously been linked to Jiangsu Sainty and Shenyang Dongjin moved to Shanghai Shenhua as a free agent. [3]
Wuhan Guanggu
Wuhan Optics Valley Football Club is a defunct football club that was located in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province, China. The club's home stadium was Xinhua Road Sports Center, while the important matches were played at the more modern stadium Wuhan Sports Center in China. Their fans were mainly from Hubei province and the club had supporters from the city of Wuhan, and the surrounding cities of Ezhou, Huangshi, and Xiaogan. It was founded in 1954 as the Hubei Football Team, while the professional football team was founded in February 1994. In 2008, the club quit the Chinese Super League because of what it believed to be unfair punishment after the club had a dispute with the Chinese Football Association over the club's on-field behaviour against Beijing Guoan in a league game. Some of its players formed a new team called Hubei Luyin and made a return to Chinese Super League in 2013.
The 2008 Chinese Super League was the 5th season since the establishment of the Chinese Super League and the 15th season of the professional football league in China. Super League was expanded to 16 clubs. Shandong Luneng Taishan won their 3rd title at the end of this season.
