The Social Democratic Party is the largest social democratic political party in Romania and also the largest overall political party in the country,aside from European Parliament level,where it is the second largest by total number of political representatives,after the National Liberal Party (PNL). It was founded by Ion Iliescu,Romania's first democratically elected president at the 1990 Romanian general election. It is currently part of the National Coalition for Romania (CNR),which is a big tent grand coalition comprising also the National Liberal Party (PNL). The CNR formerly included the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) until mid June 2023.
According to the 2021 Romanian census,2,137 Poles live in Romania,mainly in the villages of Suceava County. There are three exclusively Polish villages,as follows:Nowy Sołoniec,Plesza (Pleșa),and Pojana Mikuli,as well a significant Polish presence in Kaczyca (Cacica) and Paltynosa (Păltinoasa). There is also a relatively sizable number of ethnic Poles living in the county seat,Suceava.

Cacica is a commune located in Suceava County,in the historical region of Bukovina,northeastern Romania. The commune is located in the central part of the county,17 km (11 mi) from the town of Gura Humorului,34 km (21 mi) from the city of Rădăuți,and 28 km (17 mi) from the county seat,Suceava. At the 2011 census,74.8% of inhabitants were Romanians,20.2% Poles,and 4.4% Ukrainians. Its Polish inhabitants are descended from settlers who arrived there at the turn of the 19th century during the Habsburg period.
Ghervazen Longher is a Romanian politician,and a political leader of the Polish minority in Romania. He has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2004. Longher was born in Cacica,Suceava County.
Elena Gabriela Udrea is a Romanian politician. An independent who held office while in the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) and then the People's Movement Party (PMP),she was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies from 2008 to 2016. In successive Emil Boc cabinets,she served as Tourism Minister from 2008 to 2009 and as Regional Development and Tourism Minister from 2009 to 2012. Sentenced to six years in prison for corruption offenses,she sought asylum in Costa Rica in 2018. The following year,she gave up the asylum claim and returned to Romania,where she is currently serving her sentence.
Ludovic Orban is a Romanian engineer and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Romania from November 2019 to December 2020. He was president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) between 2017 and 2021,which expelled him shortly after he lost a bid for another term as its leader. He also served as Minister of Transport from April 2007 to December 2008 in the Tăriceanu II Cabinet.
Gabriel Oprea is a Romanian politician and a general in the army reserves. The former president of the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) and a former member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) who is now an independent,he was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Ilfov County from 2004 to 2012 and was a Senator for Bucharest from 2012 to 2016.
Gabriel Sandu is a Romanian economist and politician. A member of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L),he was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Brăila County from 2004 to 2008. In the Emil Boc cabinet,he was Minister of Communications and Information Society from 2008 to 2010,also serving as interim Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises,Commerce and Business Environment in late 2009.
Liviu Nicolae Dragnea is a Romanian engineer and former politician. Starting his career in the Democratic Party (PD),he joined the Social Democratic Party (PSD),eventually becoming its leader. After holding several positions as Minister,he resigned from the cabinet in May 2015,following a conviction in a case involving electoral fraud,for which he received a two-year suspended sentence in April 2016.
Ecaterina Andronescu is a Romanian engineer,professor,and politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD),she sat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies from 1996 to 2008,representing Bucharest,and was a Senator from 2008 until 2020,for the same city. In the Adrian Năstase cabinet,she was Education Minister from 2000 until June 2003. She held the same position in the cabinet of Emil Boc from 2008 to 2009,in the Victor Ponta cabinet during 2012,and finally in the Viorica Dăncilăcabinet for under 9 months between November 2018 and August 2019. She is married and has one child.
Alina-Ștefania Gorghiu is a Romanian lawyer and politician who served as president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) from December 2014 until December 2016. She was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Bucharest from December 2008 to December 2016. Since the latter date,she has represented TimișCounty in the Romanian Senate.
Oana Niculescu-Mizil Ștefănescu is a Romanian politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 2000,with an interlude as an independent during 2012,she sat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Bucharest from 2008 to 2015.

He served from 18 October 2021 to 2 November 2021 as interim President of the Chamber of Deputies,after the resignation of Ludovic Orban on 13 October,and as Minister of Digitalization in the CiucăCabinet from 25 November to 15 December 2021,when he resigned on the grounds of accusations of plagiarism,and significant irregularities on his Curriculum vitae. The plagiarism concerns were raised in the newspaper Libertatea,who explained they could not locate an academic paper that was listed on his CV and there were concerns raised about misleading statements regarding which university he attended.
Force of the Right,sometimes translated as Right's Force or Right Force,is a liberal-conservative political party in Romania founded in December 2021 by Ludovic Orban,former National Liberal Party (PNL) president and former Prime Minister of Romania between 2019 and 2020,in opposition to the current leadership of the PNL which is currently officially led by Nicolae Ciucăand unofficially by Klaus Iohannis.
