Victoria Technical Institute is an institute established to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The institute promotes traditional handicrafts of South India.

History

The Victoria Technical Institute was opened in Pantheon Road, Egmore, Madras in the year 1889 in commemoration of the golden jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria. [1] The foundation stone of the building was laid by the then Prince of Wales in 1905. [2] The pink sandstone Indo-Saracenic construction resembled the Mughal Emperor Akbar's palace in Fatehpur Sikri. [2]

The Victoria Technical Institute was moved to Mount Road in 1956 and presently occupies a building next to the head office of the Indian Overseas Bank. [1]

The Bapu Museum is an archaeological museum, located at M. G. Road of Vijayawada. It was renamed in the memory of the renowned film director, illustrator, cartoonist and author Bapu. The museum is maintained by the Archaeological department and has large collection of sculptures, paintings and artifacts of Buddhist and Hindu relics, with some of them as old as 2nd and 3rd Centuries. The Statue of Queen Victoria, Bangalore, is located at Queen's Park, next to Cubbon Park, Bangalore Cantonment, at the junction of 3 roads, at the border between the Cantonment and the Bangalore Pete. The statue was unveiled on 5 February 1906 by the then Prince of Wales, George Frederick Ernest Albert. The statue was raised out of funds raised by the residents of the Bangalore Civil and Military Station and contributions made by Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore. This Statue of Queen Victoria is one of the five of the original 50 statues of Queen Victoria which were installed in British India, to still stand at its original location. The statue has blossoms of jacaranda falling around. On the other end of Queen's Park is the Statue of King Edward VII.
