He is the son of Akkineni Sanjeevi, a Telugu film editor and director who introduced him to film editing, and the nephew of filmmaker L.V. Prasad. He assisted his father for about twenty films. Sreekar has been active in the industry for over three decades and has collaborated with some of the most prominent directors in Indian cinema, including Mani Ratnam, Vishal Bhardwaj, AR Murugadoss, Vishnuvardhan and Santosh Sivan.
