Vihiga constituency is an electoral district for the National Assembly of Kenya, encompassing Vihiga, Kenya. It is one of five constituencies in Vihiga County. [1] [2]

The current member of parliament (MP) for the district is Ernest Ogesi Kivai, who won on an Amani National Congress party ticket with 48.44% of the vote. His nearest challenger, Dorcas Kedogo of the Orange Democratic Party slate, received 20.14% of the vote. [3]

Siaya County County in Kenya

Siaya County is one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in the southwest part of Kenya. It is bordered by Busia County to the north, Kakamega County and Vihiga County's to the northeast and Kisumu County to the southeast. Vihiga County is an administrative region in the former Western Province of Kenya whose headquarters are in Mbale, the largest town in the county. The county has a population of 554,622 and an area of 563 km2. Vihiga County was split from Kakamega County in 1990. In 2019's census, Vihiga was found to have a population of 590, 013, an increase of 35, 391 from the 2009's count.

Reverend Moses Akaranga is a Kenyan politician who served as the first governor of Vihiga county having been defeated by Dr. Wilberforce Ottichilo in August 2017. He is also former Member of parliament for Sabatia constituency, having defeated Musalia Mudavadi of KANU from the Sabatia Constituency seat in the 2002 elections on a Ford-Kenya ticket. He served only one term and was defeated by Mudavadi, who was now representing Orange Democratic Movement at the 2007 elections.

Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo is a Kenyan politician, and the current Governor of Vihiga County having trounced Reverend Moses Akaranga in the 8/8/2017 elections. He was elected Member of Parliament for Emuhaya Constituency in 2008. He hails from Emanyinya village, Emusire, in Central Bunyore. On March 28, 2019, Governor Wilber Ottichilo laid a foundation for the governor’s official home which is worth Sh80 million in Endeli Village.

Tiriki

Tiriki ise one of sixteen sub tribes or dialects off the Abaluyia people of Western Kenya. The word Tiriki is also used to refer to their geographical location in Hamisi Division, Vihiga County, in the Western province of Kenya. Hamisi constituency is one of the longest in Kenya stretching from Gambogi to Cheptulu.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is an independent regulatory agency that was founded in 2011 by the Constitution of Kenya. The Commission is responsible for conducting or supervising referenda and elections to any elective body or office established by the Constitution, and any other elections as prescribed by an Act of Parliament. It was created in a provision of the 2010 constitution and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act. Its mandate includes "the continuous registration of voters and revision of the voter's roll, the delimitation of constituencies and wards, the regulation of political parties process, the settlement of electoral disputes, the registration of candidates for elections, voter education, the facilitation of the observation, monitoring and evaluation of elections, the regulation of money spent by a candidate or party in respect of any election, the development of a code of conduct for candidates and parties, [and] the monitoring of compliance with legislation on nomination of candidates by parties."

Except for the parts which fall under urban areas, sub-counties will coincide with the constituencies created under article 89 of the Constitution of Kenya.
