Vihiga United are a football team from Mbale vihiga county currently playing in the Kenya Premier League, having been promoted for the 2018 season.

Their colours are green and yellow. [2]

They were captained by Bernard Ochieng during their maiden KPL season in 2018. [3] Ochieng was also in the mix to represent the Kenya national team during the season. [4] Vihiga upset champions Gor Mahia 2-0 late in the season which nearly ensured they would avoid relegation back to the second division [5] and ended up finishing their maiden premier league season in 12th position. Andrew Murunga is Kenyan footballer who plays for Kenyan Premier League side Vihiga United as a striker. He made his debut for the Kenya national football team on 5 June 2013 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Nigeria.

Duncan Aketch Ochieng is a Kenyan footballer who plays for Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka as a goalkeeper. He spent the majority of his career at Mathare United, where he spent 16 years in 4 different stints. He also previously played for now defunct Mumias Sugar, V.League 1 side Sông Lam Nghệ An and Swedish Division 2 side IK Sleipner. He has also made several appearances for the Kenya national team, with whom he won the 2013 CECAFA Cup on home soil. He played the full 90 minutes in the final against Sudan, keeping a clean sheet to help his side to a 2–0 win and a 6th regional title.

The season started on 30 August 2019, but was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the final table was determined by the table at the half-way point of the season. As such, Gor Mahia were crowned champions and Chemelil Sugar were relegated, with SoNy Sugar having been expelled earlier in the season. Kisumu All Stars were later relegated after losing in a relegation play-off to Vihiga United.
