Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.

Sidlingu is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language coming of age film starring Yogesh and Ramya in the lead roles. The film has been directed and written by Vijaya Prasad, who makes his big screen debut after directing many TV series. The film is produced by Yogesh's father, T. P. Siddaraju of Duniya fame. Anoop Seelin has composed the music. Sugnan aka Gnana Murthy who has worked for movies like Mani, Lifeu Isthene, Premism, Manasology and many more is the director of cinematography.

Arun Sagar is an Indian actor, art director and comedian who mainly works in the Kannada film industry. He has been recognized as a leading art director throughout his career starting from his first movie, Bhoomi Geetha which won the national award for best environmental film. He has worked with veteran directors like Poori Jagannath, Meher Ramesh, Veerashankar and K Raghavendra Rao. He has received Karnataka state award for best art direction for his contributions in the movie Sri Manjunatha. He ran a show on Kasturi TV called 'Tarrle' that resembled a popular show M.A.D. from Pogo TV that taught children about art, painting and crafting. He became popular during the telecast of Maja with Sruja that aired on Asianet Suvarna where he played various comical roles that parodied celebrities and politicians. The show was a huge hit for its satire-comedy structure. Arun Sagar was later hired as the first contestant of Bigg Boss Kannada Season 1, where he emerged as the runner-up for the season. He later reprised the comedy genre with a new show, Comedy Circle that was aired on ETV Kannada. The show was successful, however for unknown reasons, he opted out of the show after few episodes. He also hosted a one-man-show on the same genre known as Koyyam Kotra on TV9 (Kannada).
D. Suman Kittur is an Indian journalist, film director and lyricist working in Kannada cinema. She began as an independent director with Slum Bala (2008), before working on films such as Kallara Santhe (2009), Edegarike (2012) and Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu (2016). Most of her films deal with anti-social elements. She is one of the few women directors to win a state award.
Upendra is an Indian actor and director known primarily for his work in Kannada cinema. He began his career writing dialogues and lyrics for soundtrack in Kannada films. He then started out as a director making his debut in 1992 with Tharle Nan Maga. In a career spanning over 25 years, he has directed 10 films and acted in over 60 films.

It stars Sathish Ninasam and Hariprriya alongside Karunya Ram. The story of the film revolves around the lives of four orphans and how they find love in an older woman.
Totapuri: Chapter 1 is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Vijaya Prasad and produced by K A Suresh. The film stars Jaggesh, Dhananjay, Suman Ranganathan and Aditi Prabhudeva.
Tothapuri: Chapter 2 is a 2023 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film, serving as an entertaining sequel to the movie Totapuri: Chapter 1. The film is written and directed by filmmaker Vijaya Prasad and produced by K A Suresh. The film features a notable cast, including renowned actors Jaggesh, Dhananjay, Suman Ranganathan, and Aditi Prabhudeva.
