Ville Skinnari (born 21 February 1974) is a Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party who has been serving as Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade in the cabinet of Prime Minister Antti Rinne and then in the cabinet of Prime Minister Sanna Marin from 2019 to 2023.
Skinnari is a former professional ice hockey player who played in the Finnish Elite League for the club Reipas Lahti,in the Netherlands for the club Dordrecht Lions,and for the Coventry club Solihull Blaze in the British National League. [1]
Before devoting his work to politics full time,Ville Skinnari has worked in various international positions in the field of international relations,business development,legal affairs,and trade,including a Helsinki based Attorney Office Lexia Ltd.,technology start up in London,Japanese trading house Marubeni in Tokyo as well as Nokia’s service business development. Mr. Skinnari has also worked as a freelance journalist during his years in London and Amsterdam. From 1995 until 1999,Skinnari worked as a freelance journalist in Japan,the Netherlands,and the United Kingdom.
Skinnari was elected to the Finnish Parliament for the Social Democratic Party in 2015,from the constituency of Häme (Tavastia). [2] In 2019 he was re-elected to the parliament for the term 2019–2023. [3]
Skinnari was appointed Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade in the cabinet of Prime Minister Antti Rinne in 2019. [2] [4] After the collapse of the cabinet in December 2019,Skinnari continued in the same position in the following Marin Cabinet. [5]

The trains can run at 200 km/h (124 mph) on a longer route between Helsinki and Seinäjoki and peak at that speed between Helsinki and Turku. The main railway line between Helsinki and Oulu has been upgraded between Seinäjoki and Oulu to allow for trains to run at speeds between 160 km/h (99 mph) and 200 km/h (124 mph). Other parts of the Finnish railway network are limited to lower speed.

She was the Minister of Finance as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Finland from 2011 to 2014. Between 2019 and 2024,she served as the European Commissioner for International Partnerships in the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen. Urpilainen announced her candidacy for the 2024 election for President of Finland in November 2023.

The Kuopio school stabbing occurred on 1 October 2019 at Savo Vocational College in Kuopio,Northern Savonia,Finland. Armed with a sabre,25-year-old student Joel Otto Aukusti Marin killed a female student and wounded nine others. He also carried an air pistol which was not used during the attack;it was initially mistaken for a real firearm. The attack ended when a policeman shot and wounded Marin.

The 2019 Finnish postal strike was a series of strikes and protests that resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Antti Rinne and his cabinet. In November 2019,Rinne and local government minister Sirpa Paatero were accused of giving misinformation,specifically about the transfer of work-contracts of 700 Posti package handlers,which would result in lower pay. The strike led to a one-day sympathy strike by Finland's transport sector,which gradually escalated into a general strike by multiple trade unions. It ultimately led to the resignation of Prime Minister Rinne,when the Centre Party withdrew its support from his cabinet.
