Vilnius International School was founded in 2004 by a group of parents and educators from Denmark, Finland, Lithuania and the United States, each of whom sought an educational experience for their children different from that available in Vilnius at the time. They envisioned a school that reflected the values of a democratic and multicultural society, while paying homage to Lithuanian culture and tradition.
Mission: Cultivating learners to become culturally proficient human beings*. *A culturally proficient human being:
A person who conducts their daily life with a commitment to understanding others, who makes decisions with an awareness of how they affect communities locally and globally; and who advocates and holds themselves accountable for social and environmental sustainability.
Vision: To be the reason that families choose to make Vilnius their home.
VIS is an IB PYP, IB MYP and Cambridge Assessment International Education authorised K-12 school. VIS embraced the CIE AS/A Level programme because it best meets the needs of our learners by allowing students to focus on areas of strength and personal interest. The targeted course selection provides our students with a greater sense of agency and allows VIS to be more inclusive in our upper school enrollment. Additionally, our CIE AS/A Level programme is enriched by two core courses: English language and literature and Lithuanian language and literature. These courses ensure that the ethos of our school continues to be a throughline in their development as culturally proficient human beings.
VIS has made a name for themselves as regional leaders in Model European Parliament and EPAS. Among the opportunities we provide our students, VIS runs a co-curricular programme that includes TEDxYouth, Duke of Edinburgh and Changemaker Challenge all of which have become points of pride for our school. VIS also partakes in IT and Physics Olympiads with excellent results.
