Career

Vinay started his career as an assistant director for the 2009 movie Victory . His first short movie was titled Bureaucracy Sonata, set during the Emergency in India in 1975.

In 2012, Vinay started working on the idea of An Insignificant Man with Khushboo Ranka. [3] The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016 followed by a theatrical release in India in November 2017. [4] [5]

In 2022, Vinay released While We Watched , profiling NDTV's Ravish Kumar's journalistic independence against the backdrop of general media bias in India. [6] The shooting itself took two years. [3] The film won the Amplify voices award at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, Busan cinephile award [7] at the 27th Busan International Film Festival and the Peabody award in 2023. [8]

An Insignificant Man is a 2016 Hindi/English Indian socio-political documentary co-produced and directed by Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla and also co-produced by filmmaker Anand Gandhi. and is about the rise of anti-corruption protests in India and the formation and rise to power of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The film received a standing ovation at its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and has gone on to have sold out screenings at major festival across the world including the BFI London Film Festival & Busan International Film Festival.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Arrest of Arvind Kejriwal</span> First arrest of a sitting Indian chief minister

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, India, was arrested on 21 March 2024 around 09:00 pm IST after not responding to nine summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor scam, becoming the first sitting chief ministers in Indian history to be arrested. He was given interim bail by the Supreme Court of India from 10 May 2024 to 1 June 2024 to campaign for 2024 Indian general election. Kejriwal surrendered at the Tihar Jail on 2 June 2024 after the expiration of this bail. A Delhi trial court granted bail to Kejriwal on 20 June but the bail was stayed by the Delhi High Court on 21 May before could be released. Kejriwal was questioned for 3 days and arrested on 26 June 2024 by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Tihar Jail and subsequently was sent to judicial custody till 12 July. The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal in money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam on 12 July 2024, however, he remains in Tihar Jail as he was also arrested by CBI in corruption case related to the alleged liquor policy scam.
