Dr Vir Bala Aggarwal is a Professor and the Chairperson of department of Journalism and in Mass Communication at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, India where she has been since 1986.

She is a recipient of a 2013 Bharat Nirman Award [1] and Vijay Rattan Award.

Aggarwal's published books include Media and Society: Challenges and Opportunities (2002, Concept Publishing, ISBN   8170229960), Media Policy and Nation Building: Select Issues and Themes (with V S Gupta, 1996, Concept Publishing, ISBN   8170225906), Role of Media in National Crisis and two text books Handbook of journalism and Mass Communication [2] and Essentials of Practical Journalism (2006, Concept Publishing, ISBN   8180692515).

She has also organized numerous national conferences and workshops on the varied topics related to media.

Aggarwal was instrumental in founding the journalism department in Himachal Pradesh university in 1986. She holds a doctorate in electronic media, and her other areas of specialization are communication theory and research, newspaper publishing, advertising, public relations and press laws.

Vartika Nanda is Indian prison reformer and media educator. She is the founder of Tinka Tinka, a movement targeted towards prison reforms. She has received the Stree Shakti Puraskar award from the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the highest civilian honour for women in India on women empowerment. It was conferred to her on International Women's Day 2014 in Rashtrapati Bhavan in recognition of her contribution towards creating awareness about women's issues through media and literature. Her novel work in the field of prison reforms has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records twice.

Hindusthan Samachar is the first multilingual news agency in India subscribed by more than 200 newspapers and almost all the news channels including Door Darshan (DD). It was set up in 1948 by S. S. Apte, offering its services in 10 languages: Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi. In 1951 the Government of Bihar subscribed to the Hindustan Samachar, followed by many states in India. All India Radio and Radio Nepal were once subscribers. He writes a weekly column for The Friday Review, The Hindu. He has written twelve books in Urdu and English and is often regarded as one of the best modern academic critic in Urdu language.
